■ Structural understanding of Front Cutting through basic movements and how to grip with a sword.
1. Movements with natural breathing
However you move, it will be better to follow the natural breathing, otherwise energy will easily be blocked. So I suggest ; 1) Try to use your whole body, so that you can save energy and cut in order to do effectively and naturally as well as fix the angle of the sword with ease for cutting according to situations. 2) Try to feel only the energy will flow all over the body with forgetting body with swords. 3) Try to enjoy with riding on the energy with the feeling of floating on it.
2. Natural movements and how to grab with sword, body (hand)
(검파지의 운용과 원리, principle & management of how to grab)
I am gonna try to say, first of all, for all beginners, "Don't try to grab your sword's handle strongly, otherwise you cannot fix quickly the angle of the sword properly and simultaneously to the direction which will have to be cut. Grabbing naturally will make your sword skill be promoted with flexibility. How to grab and its managements are very essential to swords training.
3. Learning how to "Feel & Connect" through movements with natural breathing
It should be very simple and clear only when you can do " Feel & Connect", which is to feel only energy with staying out of your thought or willingness. Only your own experiences will make you get to realize. No matter how you may be able to show a very excellent performance in martial arts, you might not reach it, which should be based on both better training and better life for sure. It is a fundamental essence to let yourself move forward to get close to the principle of nature.
4. How to grip
You should know, above all, structural body function of each finger are different.
10 fingers should be definitely touched on the handle of a sword.
2) The function of No.1(Thumb) and no.2(Index) finger is an extensor which have to stretch, the one of no3,4,5 fingers is a flexor have to be pulled. So the grabbing in Hapkido or Judo etc. and the usage of all weapons will be structurally understood by the principle of human body, and especially in training fist of push-up we usually use no.1 and 2 knuckle. we can understand why we have to use it anatomically, thus the bone sustaining is connected with the knuckles of no.1 and no2. In case of using no3,4,5's knuckles, a pinky finger of no.5 will be pushed back easily by a certain impact because the bone sustaining behind is too thin.
When you can do downward cutting, no.3,4,5's fingers play a main role, in doing upward cutting, no.1 and 2 will do it, in the middle of doing, 10 fingers all together should be touched around the handle of a sword.
In case of grabbing strongly with no.1 and 2 fingers, it will be easily tired due to
the obstacle of energy flow, which is a less effective and flexible way.
In case of no distance between both hands around the handle of a sword, it will be difficult to do a direct-reaction and the flexiblity is also lesser. Need a gap of 3 fingers breadth between right and left hand.
First of all, all 10 fingers should work at the same time, each role allocation between the function of no.1 & 2 and the one of no.3,4,5 will be practiced naturally without being one-sided, otherwise that training will not become efficiently and effectively.
The above explanations are for those who are new to sword training, which will be most important parts of teaching the principle and reason of human body's movements through how to grip a sword in the beginning stage.
Based on it, next step will be become the mastery course for learning the importance of breathing and basic posture through movements.
