Lisa Jones write up on Irish headong kumdo seminar 2017
It was an honour, privilege and a pleasure to meet grand master Kim for a second time, not only is he an amazing teacher but also a kind, warm, caring and humorous soul that brightens up a room and makes it feel so relaxed and calming just with his presence.
Grand master Kim taught us how to move with our body our inner energy to guide the sword, to let the sword flow with ease and not to think but just to do and feel the way of the sword, like a dance on air be free and follow what is natural. In doing this you become more at ease with yourself let go of tension and overthinking, breathe relax and have positive and happy outlook with yourself and others around you.
While training we learnt new two sword warm ups, one and two sword rolls, sword flipping and catching, we also focussed on warm up partner work technicals. Although I have now graded to my first dan, I still have many many things to learn and practice, being patience motivated and determined will allow me to focus my body and mind, in my eyes there is no such thing as perfection there is always room for improvement, not just in headong kumdo, but in all aspects of life.
The whole weekend was an unforgettable experience, with many training sessions, down time at lunch, dinners and a little bit of exploring Ireland.
We hope to see you again soon and thank you for your knowledge patience and kindness.
