The Africa Cup of Nations, also referred to as the African Cup of Nations or African Nations Cup,
officially CAN (French for Coupe d'Afrique des Nations), is the main international association football
competition in Africa.
It is sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and was first held in 1957. Since 1968,
it has been held every two years.

Since the competition will be held in 3 countries (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda), it was reported that each country will host 3 stadiums,
for a total of 9, which will be the largest number of venues hosting one edition.
The following countries had interested a bid to host the tournament in the early 2020.

The tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon. Cameroon would have hosted the competition for the first time since 1972.
Cameroon was stripped of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to delays in the delivery of infrastructure, the Boko Haram insurgency and the Anglophone Crisis.
On 8 January 2019, Egypt were chosen by the CAF Executive Committee as the host nation of the competition.
