Put on the new man and do good (4/7/2024 text: Ephesians 4:21-32) Jesus Christ was crucified for our old man, who was dead in trespasses and sins, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin, and that we might be justified alive to God in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:6-7). Therefore we are to live as dead to sin, and we are to present our members to God as weapons of righteousness. Today's Epistle to the Ephesians teaches us about the old man, who pursues the things of the world, and the new man, who has been renewed in spirit and created according to God in righteousness and holiness of truth (Ephesians 4:22-24). These words instruct us not to be swayed by the worldly tendencies of doctrine that follow the deceitful and deceitful temptations of the world, but to do what is true in love and to grow in the stature of Christ (Ephesians 14-15). The saints, clothed with the new man in Christ, are no longer under the law of sin and death, but are freed from sin (Romans 8; 1-2). We must be convinced that sin has no control over us, and we must not obey the desires of the flesh, but present our members to God as weapons of righteousness, a living sacrifice. We must also walk in newness of life in Christ so that sin does not dominate us ( Romans 6:13-14). We must put off the old man who follows the old habits of the world and put on the new man who follows God's truth. We must put on the new man, made in the holiness of truth, and walk the path of doing good and pursuing God's righteousness. Furthermore, as new people created in holiness, we are to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice pleasing to God (Romans 12:1-2) In order to cast off the old man who follows the old habits of decaying according to the lust of temptation, we must not love this world or the things in this world. We must strive to abide in the truth of God in order to escape the temptations of the world, such as the lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the eyes, and the pride of this life, which are desirable enough to be appetizing, desirable and desirable enough to make us wise (1 John 2:15-17). The psalmist says, "Blessed is he who does not follow the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the arrogant, but delights in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. I am praising God, saying, "Like a tree planted by a stream, it bears fruit in its season, and its leaves do not wither, and all its deeds shall prosper (Psalm 1:1-3)." The Bible says that the way of the wicked, the old man, is to go back to the way of sin, and the result is only to perish like chaff in the wind (Psalm 1:4). Therefore, as children of salt and light, endowed with God's love and grace, we are to live in obedience to our Heavenly Father, a life of truth and doing good to our neighbors (Matthew 5:16). Therefore, we saints should forsake falsehood, speak what is true with our neighbors, and not sin against our neighbors because of resentment, but join forces in helping one another and do good works (Ephesians 4:25-27). Furthermore, we are to forsake bitterness, anger, anger, clamor, and blasphemy, and to forgive and love one another in Christ, just as the Lord told us to forgive and love our neighbors (Ephesians 4:31-32). The Apostle Paul spoke of the garment of the new man, saying, "Therefore clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and long-suffering, as God's chosen one, holy and beloved, tolerating one another and forgiving one another if anyone has an offense, just as the Lord has forgiven you, and above all these things add love, which is the bond of perfection" (Col. 3:12-14). As God's holy children, we are to show our neighbors what it means to be dead to sin. As members of the church who were purchased with the price of the blood of Christ, who came as the light of life to defeat this dark world stained with sin, we must put into practice the word to put on the new man and do good, so we must work together to accomplish good (Romans 8:28). Sermon Quotes for April 7, 2024: Put on the new man and do good (Romans 6:6-7) "[6] For we know that our old man was crucified with Jesus, so that the body of sin might be destroyed, that we would no longer be slaves to sin, [7] for the dead were delivered from sin and justified." (Ephesians 4:22-24) "[22] Put off the old man, who follows the lusts of temptation and the old corrupting habits, [23] but be renewed in spirit, [24] and put on the new man, who was created according to God in righteousness and holiness of truth." (Ephesians 4:14-15) "[14] So that we may no longer be little children, led astray by the deceitfulness and deceitful temptations of men, and be tossed about by every wind of doctrine, [15] but that which is true in love, that we may grow up to him in all things, who is the head, which is the Christ." (Romans 8:1-2) "[1] Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, [2] for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death." (Romans 6:13-14) "[13] Do not offer your members to sin as weapons of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as one who is raised from the dead, and your members to God as weapons of righteousness, [14] and sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace." (Romans 12:1-2) "[1] Therefore, brethren, in all the mercy of God, I exhort you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your spiritual worship. (1 John 2:15-17) "[15] Do not love the world or the things that are in the world: for whoever loves the world does not have the love of the Father in him, [16] for all that is in the world is the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of this life, all of which are not from the Father, but from the world. (Psalm 1:1-3) "[1] Blessed is the man who does not follow the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the arrogant, [2] but delights in the law of the Lord, and meditates on it day and night. (Psalm 1:4) "The wicked are not like that, but like chaff in the wind." (Matt. 5:16) "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven." (Ephesians 4:25-27) "[25] Wherefore put away falsehood and speak what is true, each one with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. (Ephesians 4:31-32) "[31] Put away all bitterness, anger, anger, clamor, and blasphemy, together with all malice, [32] be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you." (Colossians 3:12-14) "[12] Therefore clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and long-suffering, as God's chosen one, holy and beloved, [13] and if anyone has an offense against you, bear with one another and forgive one another, just as the Lord has forgiven you, [14] and above all these things add love, which is the bond of perfection." (Romans 8:28) "We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose." |
