Let us reap the fruit of righteousness in peace.
(4/21/2024 text:James 3:13-18)
Our Heavenly Father's will for us is to restore to the fullness of the image of God, the image of Christ, which has been cut off from God and lost through the sin of disobedience. God's providence has been accomplished on this earth for the past 6,000 years to restore in the Lord the image of man who was cursed and died because he did not obey God's commands but followed the words of the devil (Romans 5:21).
The most important plan of God is to raise those who have died in trespasses and sins through the Savior, Jesus Christ. It gives eternal life to those who hear the words of Jesus Christ the Savior and believe in God the Father, who sent Jesus Christ to earth (John 5:24). He also blessed those who believed in the name of Jesus Christ and received Him to become God's children (John 3:16).
After listening to the words of Jesus Christ, the Word of life, God made the souls who started as children of faith to be the heirs of the gospel of Christ, the New Covenant, and allowed the Holy Spirit to indwell them in order to restore the lost image of God through the power of God. It is to teach and nourish us through the word of Christ, the God of the Word, to protect us from the devil by the power of God, and to protect us with the power of God for salvation that He has prepared to be revealed in the last days (1 Peter 1:3-7).
Therefore, we believers are to always pursue goodness, always rejoice, give thanks in all circumstances, and pray without ceasingness (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). We must also know God's good, pleasing and perfect will for us and obey it. In order to keep God's will and do it, we must live a life of communion with God through His word and prayer.
In his epistle to the Colossians, he wrote, "Therefore, if you have been raised together with Christ, seek what is above. There Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think not of the things above, and not of the things of the earth. for ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you will also appear with him in glory (Col. 3:1-4)."
Today's text is a teaching about the wisdom that comes from heaven, and it instructs us not to follow the wisdom of this earth. It instructs us that the saints, those who are born of God, must bear the fruit of righteousness, having in mind only the wisdom from above, the wisdom from heaven, and resisting the evil wisdom of the world, lust, and devil (James 3:14-15).
But the wisdom from above is holy, peaceable, docile, full of mercy and good fruit. Therefore, we saints should be doers of good deeds with wisdom and meekness. But the wisdom of this earth will be subject to the wrath of God because of all the evil things that are jealous and contentious, and who are clamorous, partial, and deceitful (James 3:16-17).
In his epistle to the Corinthian church and other churches, the Apostle Paul did not omit the words of greeting: "Grace and peace be to you through God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 1:3). He also preached that "the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit" (Romans 14:17).
Jesus Christ shed His atoning blood so that human beings, who were dead in trespasses and sins, could first have a reconciled relationship with God (1 John 4:10). It is the Lord's bearing of our sins and His death on the cross, opening the door for us to meet God who has been cut off. Christ's death as a propitiatory offering brings us to reconciliation with God and peace (Job 22:21).
The Lord said on the Mount, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God" (Matthew 5:9). Therefore, we are to love our neighbor as ourselves, sharing what is our own, and being at peace with all people (Romans 12:18). We must also sow in peace and bear the fruit of righteousness so that God's will to accomplish salvation (James 3:18).
