Script. Genesis 22 : 10 ~ 22 Pastor Khan Aqeel / 2019 - 09 – 15
† I am with you & watch over you †
Brothers and sisters it is very true that sometime we feel very lonely in our sufferings and trials. Parents, siblings, relatives, friends everyone left us. But friends, always remember God our creator, our Father is always with us and watching us every mini second of our lives. In the scripture Jacob was all alone in foreign land and wilderness. But God was with him and watching his ways.
Genesis 22 : 15
I am with you & will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back
to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.
Brothers & sisters, God is good God. God never leave His followers in sufferings and trials. What we’ve to remember always, we are not alone in our sufferings and trials. God is with us always.
Isaiah 41 : 10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Let’s jump in the depth of the scripture & learn what God want to teach us through Jacob.
1. Jacob was running to save his life.
Jacob’s own brother Esau was very angry with Jacob. Because Jacob took Esau’s birth right and blessings. Esau was a warrior & hunter. One day Esau came home exhausted & hungry. Jacob cooked red beans. Esau gave his birth right by having some red beans. Jacob also took Esau’s blessings from his father Isaac by cheating him. In this way Esau became so angry and want to kill Jacob.
Genesis 27 : 41
Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said
to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
Friends, Jacob ran towards Harran, where his uncle Laban lived. Jacob did not understand what to do & how to save his life from Esau. Harran was very far and his brother Esau was strong and warrior. Esau can catch him anytime. In the middle of wilderness, Jacob was too tired and it was night. Jacob stopped for a little nap. Jacob slept very soon under an open sky.
Genesis 28 : 11 (First portion)
When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set.
Jacob was afraid of Esau, in wilderness there were wild animals, snakes, scorpions other dangerous insects too.
2. Pillow of stone under open sky.
Jacob was too tired. Jacob took a stone and put under his head as pillow. Hard and cool pillow.
Genesis 28 : 11 (Middle portion) Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head
Friends, just imagine to have hard stone under head. Cold night, fear of death. Jacob thought that he is all alone and after a short while he fall asleep. Brothers & sisters sometimes it happen in our lives too. Everyone left us. We become so alone. Our parents, siblings, relatives, friends left us. But God never leave us nor forsake us. Wherever we go God is always with us & watching our ways.
Deuteronomy 31 : 8
The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never
leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Hebrew 13 : 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
God revealed Himself to Jacob and gave him peace & guidance. God is with us too. Just feel Him
3. God by Himself revealed & gave peace to Jacob.
God revealed Himself to Jacob in dream. After a short while Jacob fall sleep. Jacob dreamed a dream. Jacob saw there is big ladder. Angels were going up and coming down and God is standing at the top.
Genesis 28 : 12 ~ 13
12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. -
13 There above it stood the Lord, and He said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
Here we can see strange thing. Jacob saw a stairway. Angels were going up & coming down. God was standing at the top of the stairway. Angels suppose to stay in heaven & praise God but angels are ascending & descending. Angels were on the earth already. Those angels were guardian angels.
Genesis 48 : 16 (First Portion) the Angel who has delivered me from all harm may he bless these boys.
Jacob declared that there are angels who helped him in all ways. It mean there are guardian angels. Friends, God is going to depute His angels to guide & protect you & me from all disasters.
Secondly we can see God blessed Jacob with assurance of descendants & property.
Genesis 28 : 13 (Last portion) I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
God blessed Jacob with twelve sons & daughters. Later twelve sons turned into twelve tribes.
4. God and Jacob kept their promises.
Friends, last and final thing what we can discover in the scripture. Jacob made a vow with God that He will built a house of Lord, where he slept and put pillar of stone and he will give tithes.
Genesis 28 : 20 ~ 22
22 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear. 21 so that I return safely to my father’s household, then the Lord will be my God 22 and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”
Jacob made an altar and gave that place name Bethel. Which mean house of the Lord. Time to time Jacob visited Bethel to pray and found peace for his soul. Friends, not only Jacob kept his vow. God also kept His promise. God blessed Jacob with children, property, long, happy healthy life.
God blessed Jacob with twelve sons & daughters. Later twelve sons turned into twelve tribes.
Genesis 35:22 (Last Portion) Jacob had 12 sons ~ Genesis 49:28 (1st. Portion) All these are the 12 tribes of Israel,
Brothers and sisters what we learned through Jacob (Israel). We have to keep trust in living God & keep our promises. God never break His promise but we break promises. Let’s keep our promises.
Ecclesiastes 5 : 5 ~ 6
It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it. Do not let your mouth
lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.”
Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands?
Friends, it’s better not to make any vow. But if we make any vow. Keep it at any cost.
Conclusion :-
Brothers & sisters in Christ, always remember God never leave us nor forsake us. He’s always with us.
Joshua 1 : 9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;
do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Friends, always remember this promise is not for not Joshua only. This promise is for you and me.
God isn’t Gods of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob. He is our God too. He’s with us too to guide our ways.
