Call (Request) for Proposals
The University of Victoria Libraries, proudly committed to the preservation of the Trans* history, now holds the world’s largest Transgender Archives. Over the weekend of March 21-23, 2014, we invite you–scholars, activists, archivists, students, all interested people–to share in discussions about Moving Trans* History Forward through the creation and preservation of Trans* archival collections. Please join us for a 3-day symposium on Trans* archival collections focusing on Acquisition, Preservation, and Access.

Keynote speakers:
Susan Stryker, Associate Professor of Gender & Women's Studies, Director, Institute for LGBT Studies, University of Arizona: “Trans* Activism and Archiving in the US: History, Objects, Methods.”
Viviane Namaste, Associate Professor and Concordia University Research Chair, Simone de Beauvoir Institute, Concordia University, Montreal: “Oral history, archives, and invisible labour of Trans* women in Montreal.”
Dallas Denny, writer, researcher, and veteran Trans* community activist, Atlanta, Georgia: “Preserving Trans* History: A Short History and Suggestions for the Future.”
Proposals are now being accepted on conference themes of Acquisition, Preservation, and Access.

Proposal Topics might include, but are certainly not limited to:
• Collection highlights: examples from public or personal collections
• Negotiating the politics and process of Trans* collections acquisition
• Preservation challenges and opportunities
• Cataloguing / description challenges and opportunities
• Access challenges and opportunities
• Outreach and partnerships

Instructions for submission of proposals
1. Identify yourself fully. Provide the name(s), affiliations, email address(es), phone number(s) of all people who will be part of your presentation.
2. Identify the type of presentation you wish to make: individual presentation, panel, poster.
3. Identify which conference theme your presentation best fits within: Acquisition, Preservation, Access. If none of the above, please provide your own appraisal of your theme.
4. Provide a 1- or 2-page synopsis of what you intend to present. Please avoid technical jargon as much as possible. Remember, one of our themes is access. Your presentation should be accessible to interested, non-academic, conference goers.
5. Note what equipment you will need for your presentation.
6. Prepare everything in an easy-to-read size and style of font. Save as a Word document or in pdf format.
