CVS Pharmacy
Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill
On December 22, 2018, Shine City Project returned for a cleanup at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill! During the service project, there was several people who stopped to appreciate the work that we were doing, including an employee of a nearby 7-Eleven. He came out to praise us, and he offered to provide us some coffee and other beverages inside. It was amazing to see how much people's hearts were open to see the work that we were doing.
For several of our volunteers, it was their first or second time to join our group! One volunteer, Robert, was able to invite and bring his brother and nephew who had previously helped out at a cleanup in Henderson. Another volunteer, Anthony, joined our group for the first time! Anthony met Shine City Project at the previous week's service project at Mountain Lake Park.
Monica, also new to Shine City Project, was able to join this morning. Almost every morning for the past one and a half years, Monica has been cleaning up areas along Las Vegas Boulevard from Silverado Ranch to Windmill. Each day, she fills up three to five bags of trash. She estimates that she has moved more than a thousand bags of trash since she started. Though she almost always does the work by herself, she has a beautiful and loving heart in wanting to make a difference for others in Las Vegas.
"Since moving to Las Vegas in 2017, I made a habit of going out in the mornings at least five times a week and picking up trash for about an hour. During this time, many people have thanked me for my service and some have even offered me money, but I do it for the exercise and the community so that kids will be able to see the desert without broken glass, paper cups and plastic bottles everywhere. I do it for the future." - Monica
