Shine City Project
Las Vegas Rescue Mission
September 14, 2019
On September 14, 2019, Shine City Project divided and conquered at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission! Split into three small groups, we were able to help out in different areas of the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. As usual, our volunteers helped out at the kitchen with tasks such as preparing cups with napkins and sporks, folding towels and aprons, separating and thawing meat, and making a rustic potato salad! A few of our volunteers in the kitchen were called outside to also help throw out expired buns from a popular burger franchise. They unfolded and stacked the cardboard boxes that had contained the expired buns and then loaded the cardboard boxes into a truck.
Meanwhile, a small group of our volunteers were able to help out at the Thrift Store for the first time! Starting outside, our volunteers helped to organize a truck containing blankets and towels. Once finished, we moved inside and helped to sort out and hang donated clothes to be sold at the Thrift Store.
In total, we had thirteen volunteers representing Shine City Project! For one of our volunteers, it was her first time to join our group! We met this volunteer during our cleanup at Lorenzi Park the previous Saturday, and she was inspired by the work of our volunteers! She wanted to join and support our group, and she was able to do so! She will continue to join our upcoming service projects!
