Post-mortem radiograph of a hydrocephalic puppy.
If hydrocephalus occurs in a puppy there is usually an abnormally large, dome shaped head. The fontanel (morula, "soft spot") on the top of the skull is usually abnormally large and can be felt. If hydrocephalus occurs after the skull has stopped growing, the head will not enlarge.
*고양이 Open fontanelle is more common in breeds with domed heads or flat faces e.g. Persians
Affected kittens may not thrive as well as their littermates the skull appears enlarged with a prominent dome or forehead and exceptionally thin bones and the excessive fluid causes brain damage (which may be progressive). As the condition progresses, the pressure on the brain leads to blindness, convulsions, unusual behaviour e.g. compulsive circling and loss of control of limbs.

Figure 1. This diagram of the human brain illustrates the location of the four ventricles/ chambers and is similar to that seen in the cat. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is produced in, and circulates through, these chambers and in the space between the brain and skull (the subarachnoid space) and between the spinal cord and spinal canal.
