캐나다 토론토에 조지 존슨(1839~1917)이라는 시인이 있었습니다. 
존슨이 학교선생님이던 시절에 제자 메기 클라크(1842-1865)와 서로 사랑하는 사이가 
되었습니다. 존슨은 메기에 대한 지극한 사랑을 즐겨 시를 써냈습니다. 
둘은 1865년 결혼해서 오하이오주 클리브랜드로 이사를 가고, 존슨은 그곳 학교에서 근무를 
하게 됩니다. 불행하게도 사랑하던 매기가 결혼한지 1년도 못되어 결핵으로 세상을 떠나게 
됩니다. 존슨은 메기를 잃고난 아픔을 벗어나기 위해서 클리브랜드를 떠나서 메기와의 추억이 
어려있는 토론토로 돌아옵니다. 존슨은 사랑하는 메기에 대한 추억과 애상을 시로 또 
써냈습니다. 그 시를 A.버터필드(1837~1891)가 곡을 붙여 1866년에 발표한 것입니다

고교2학년때 강당에 전체모아놓고 음악실기곡으로..목에가시가 걸린듯소리가전혀 안나와..퇴장했다가 다시 올라가서 부르고 히트쳤던기억이..지금생각하면 저도모르게 많이 긴장했었나봐요...노래는 생각이며 근육의 움직이라는 측면에서 보면 ..남학생들의 시커먼 교복밖에 기억안납니다..ㅎㅎ..섬나라의 남녀공학이였거든요..^^*
