Carter To Nets: I Want To Stay

카터가 계속 네츠에 남을 마음이 있다고 합니다. 카터는 로드 쏜 단장이 자신과 연장 계약 할 것이라는 말을 들었고, 자신은 나도 좋다 라는 식으로 대답해 줬다고 하는군요. 뭐 뒷 사정이 어떻게 돌아가는지는 모르겠지만, 카터가 네츠에 남겠다고 한다면야, 네츠 입장에선 트래이드 할 이유가 없죠.

Vince Carter has been rumored to be heading anywhere from Orlando to Charlotte to even right across the river. But after scoring 26 points in a win over the Kings on Friday,

Carter revealed for the first time - at least publicly - what his true feelings may be. Though he has the ability to opt out of the final year of his contract once the season is over, Carter made it known that he'd like to stay with the Nets.

Speaking on the YES Network postgame show, Carter was told that team president Rod Thorn had earlier said, "We'd obviously like to sign him."

Carter responded by saying, "Hey, that sounds good to me. We're going to try to work it out. Hopefully I can be a Net for years to come."

Only a few days ago, it seemed the Nets were prepared to trade Carter. There has been much speculation that he'd like to play for Orlando, just over an hour away from his hometown of Daytona Beach. But the chances of that happening seem slim now that Magic general manager Otis Smith has bashed Carter's game, telling a Florida paper that he was reluctant to trade 21-year-old Darko Milicic for the 30-year-old Carter.

"I'm not going to take a step back and fall for what I call fool's gold," Smith said. "It shines and it glitters, but it just doesn't stick or pass the test." [READ]

Ben Wallace returns Sunday to the Palace of Auburn Hills for the first time since leaving the Pistons after six seasons and one NBA championship to sign a four-year, $60 million free-agent contract with the Bulls.

He has faced his former teammates, whom he calls brothers, during a Bulls blowout victory at the United Center in early January. The laughs and hugs shared on that day can't prepare Wallace for what promises to be an emotional day.

"It's going to be crazy," Wallace says. "Every night I stepped on that court, I swore to protect it. Now I have to go in there and try to tear it down. It's not going to be easy. It's going to be emotional.

"I don't know if fans are going to cheer or boo or throw popcorn or throw ice. I know the fans appreciate the things I did. And I appreciate the things they did for me. But I'm the enemy now, so it might be a love-hate relationship. I know this: It's going to be exciting." [READ]

Baron Vague About When He Will Return

Davis said he was going to continue to work in Los Angeles with physical therapist Judy Seto. He has a check-up slated for early next week.

Atkins, Swift Deal With Heat Falls Apart

A proposed deal that would have sent Stromile Swift and point guard Chucky Atkins to Miami for former Griz forward James Posey, center Michael Doleac and a draft pick was agreed upon in principal until Heat guard Dwyane Wade suffered a separated shoulder.

Wade's injury Wednesday -- on the eve of the NBA's trade deadline -- made the Heat pull out for fear that they may not be able to contend for a championship. The inability to consummate the deal was a disappointment for Griz brass as much as it was for Swift and Atkins.

The Griz wanted to create more salary-cap space with Posey's expiring $6.4 million contract. The little-used Swift saw an opportunity to play. Atkins wanted to follow in the footsteps of his buddy, Eddie Jones, and join a possible playoff team.

Coincidentally, Swift and Atkins are represented by agent Andy Miller, who had convinced both players that the deal was real.

"I see what direction this is going so it wouldn't have bothered," Swift said. "But I'm definitely sure something will happen this summer. But I'll stay ready if they do call on me." [READ]

Bobcats Lose Okafor, Wallace

Wallace strained his right groin in the third quarter; Okafor strained his left calf a couple of minutes later.

Okur, Kirilenko Sit Out Jazz Game Against Celtics

Mehmet Okur and Andrei Kirilenko sat out Utah's game against Boston on Saturday night due to injuries.

Okur missed his second straight game with back spasms and Kirilenko was out with a bruised left knee that knocked him out of a game at Denver on Friday night.

Okur had not missed a game for the Jazz before Friday and had played in 233 straight games.

Kirilenko banged his knee in a collision with the Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony and the Jazz decided to rest him Saturday.

The Jazz moved second-year guard C.J. Miles to forward for Kirilenko and started Jarron Collins in place of Okur at center. [READ]

Wade Continues To Mull Options

Kevin Garnett's last words of a two-minute interview after Friday morning's shootaround were, "Thank God for opt-outs."

The term opt-outs was a reference to opt-out clauses in some NBA player contracts. Garnett has one, and he can exercise it following the 2007-08 season, leaving the final year of his deal worth $24 million on the table to become a free agent.

Garnett made the comment after a question about whether the passing of the trade deadline might lift a cloud that had been hanging over the team.

A few minutes later, Garnett emerged from the locker room and was asked if he wanted to clarify his comment about opt-outs.

"I didn't say that," Garnett said over his shoulder as he exited down a corridor. "I said 'opts.' I said 'outs.' " [READ]

빈스 이야기를 하다 생각난건데, 분명 언젠가 기사에서 로드 쏜 단장이, 카터가 이번 시즌이 끝나면 떠날 것 같다고 이야기 했었는데.. 위에 카터가 말한 대로라면 그게 아니군요.. 또 만약 위 말이 사실 이라면.. 빈스가 네츠를 정말 좋아하는 것 같네요. 이번 시즌 끝나고 올랜도 쪽으로 옮기겠다 는 의견들이 거짓이라고 말을 했다면, 네츠 입장에서는 트래이드가 훨씬 쉬웠을 터인데, 그렇게 하지 않은 걸 보면.. 뭐 그냥 연막 작전일 수도 있지만 -_-

가넷 얘기는....허접하지만 혼자 생각해 본다면, 자신이 계약을 "옵트 아웃" 즉, 계약 연장 의사가 없음을 나타낸 것이 아니라 "옵션" 과 "아웃" 즉, 팀 하는 꼬라지 봐서 자기 맘대로 정할 수 있다는게 맘에 든다는 얘기 같습니다.
