The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard/forward Demetris Nichols to a contract, Cavaliers' General Manager Danny Ferry announced Monday. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Nichols, 23, played in five preseason games for the New York Knicks and averaged 4.8 points on .571 (8-14) shooting including .667 (4-6) from three-point range in 7.8 minutes per game. He was originally selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 53rd overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. He was then traded to the Knicks on draft day in exchange for a 2008 second round selection. He was waived by the Knicks on October 25. The 6-foot-8, 216-pounder led the Big East in scoring last season when he averaged 18.9 points per game and was named to the All-Big East First Team. During his four-year career with the Orange, he played in 123 games (93 starts) and averaged 10.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. [READ]
Rival GM: Wizards Could Be 'Dark Horse' For Kobe 익명의 GM이 코비 트래이드 루머에 대해, 워싱턴이 다크호스가 될 수 있다고 말합니다.
Chicago Tribune - 10/29 - 11:42 AM EST
One general manager on the periphery of the Kobe Bryant talks says he believes the "dark horse" to make a deal with the Lakers is the Washington Wizards . The consensus is the Wizards have hit a plateau, but have the star power in Gilbert Arenas to make a deal. Arenas is talking about opting out of his contract after this season. He's from Los Angeles and has become a star, one of the league's highest-scoring players and an engaging personality who would embrace the Hollywood scene. He would meet the Lakers' demands for an All-Star player if they trade Bryant. "Watch out for them," the general manager said, meaning the Wizards. [READ]
Wolves Reach Buyout With Howard 어제 전해 드린 대로 울브스와 하워드, 바이아웃에 합의
ESPN - 10/29 - 8:39 PM EST
The Minnesota Timberwolves reached a buyout with veteran Juwan Howard on Monday. Howard was initially ecstatic when the Rockets traded him to Minnesota for guard Mike James in June. He had wanted to play with Kevin Garnett for some time and spoke about regretting choosing Orlando over Minnesota the last time he was a free agent. But when the Wolves shipped Garnett to Boston at the end of July, Howard made it clear he was not interested in being part of a youth movement in Minnesota. He requested a trade, but the Wolves found no takers for a 13-year veteran who was owed $6.88 million this year and $7.38 million next year. [READ]
바클리가 코비를 비판하며, 이미 래이커스와 코비는 돌아갈 수 없는 지점을 지났다고 말합니다.
Los Angeles Times - 10/29 - 8:04 PM EST
Charles Barkley criticized Kobe Bryant Monday for the way he asked the Lakers to trade him, then for not appearing to give his full effort since owner Jerry Buss said he would consider a deal. So when Barkley goes on the air Tuesday night for TNT's season-opening doubleheader, he will probably have some strong words about Bryant for the second time in three years. He said Phil Jackson's questioning of Bryant's effort over the weekend was the "final straw." "What Phil Jackson said yesterday, that was like they're at the point of no return now. There's a point where you know you can make a marriage work, but what Phil Jackson said yesterday, that was the end of it," Barkley said at a luncheon with fellow studio analyst Kenny Smith. "That's the one thing I respect most about Kevin Garnett. Even though he played on terrible teams, there is not a player in the last 10 years who played harder than Kevin Garnett. And that's the one thing that disappoints me. Phil said that Kobe's just going through the motions. ... And if your coach tells you you're just going through the motions, that's pretty much the end of the straw." [READ]

NBA.com - 10/29 - 8:01 PM EST
The Pistons got down to the 15-man roster limit at Monday’s deadline by waiving rookie Sammy Mejia, something of a surprise since they signed him to a partially guaranteed contract after his performance in the Las Vegas Summer League. Mejia, a 2007 second-round draft choice out of DePaul, lost out in his battle for the final roster spot with veteran Ronald Dupree. The waiving of Mejia means the Pistons will carry three rookies on the roster – first-round picks Rodney Stuckey and Arron Afflalo and Senegalese center Cheikh Samb, a 2006 second-round choice who spent last season playing professionally in Spain. The San Antonio Spurs said Monday that they have traded guard Beno Udrih to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a protected second-round draft pick in 2008. The 6-foot-3 Udrih broke his left index finger earlier this month during Spurs' training camp. Udrih's role on the team decreased last season as veteran Jacque Vaughn took over as backup point guard to Tony Parker. [READ]

Phoenix May Host 2009 All-Star Game 피닉스가 09년 올스타전을 주최할 것 같다고 하네요.
Arizona Republic - 10/29 - 5:44 PM EST
Phoenix may host another NBA All-Star Game, as early as 2009, owner Robert Sarver said on Monday. "I think we're the leading candidate for it," Sarver said. "I think we'll know in the next 30 days. My guess is they're talking to two or three other teams." New Orleans is set to host the 2008 game this coming February. Phoenix also hosted the 1975 and 1995 All-Star Games. The East beat the West in the 1975 game, with the New York Knicks ' Walt Frazier named MVP. In 1995, the West won 139-112. Then-Sacramento Kings ' guard Mitch Richmond was the MVP. [READ]
Detroit Expected To Waive Dupree 디트가 로날드 듀프리를 웨이브 할 것 같다고 하네요.
MLIVE.com - 10/29 - 5:41 PM EST
Unless the Pistons can pull off a trade involving Ronald Dupree by Monday night - which at this point, seems unlikely - Detroit will waive the 6-foot-7 forward in order to get their roster down to the NBA-maximum of 15 players. The Pistons may also look to waive rookie Sammy Mejia, but that seems unlikely at this point. Billups said neither player had shown signs of worry or concern about their future. "You would never know they were fighting for their life right now," Billups said. "They're just regular, playing as hard as everyone else hoping for the best." [READ]

Toronto forward Joey Graham will stay through the 2008-09 season after the Raptors exercised their fourth-year option Monday. "I think Joey's earned it; he's gotten better every year," coach Sam Mitchell said. "He's a guy you definitely want to keep on your roster." The team had until Oct. 31 to exercise its option on Graham, who is making just under $1.6 million this season. He will earn about $2.4 million next season. San Francisco Chronicle - 10/29 - 1:42 PM EST
Bill Duffy, the agent for center Andris Biedrins, said Sunday there will be no contract extension for his client after negotiations with the Warriors on a long-term deal ended with "significant" differences on Biedrins' current value. Duffy was seeking a five-year deal worth substantially more than $50 million. The Warriors' offer was substantially less than $50 million. The gap was large enough that talks did not progress to a serious degree. "Their opinion is that they can pay him that next summer," Duffy said. "That's true, but we think his value will increase. "The way this game is evolving, he's one of the top five young interior players in the NBA, in my opinion. He's 21 years old, he has the experience, he's confident and everyone knows his character and work ethic." [READ]

Houston Chronicle - 10/29 - 1:41 PM EST
After not playing much last year with the Knicks (44 games), and knowing the Rockets were overstocked at point guard, Steve Francis should have come to camp prepared to compete for playing time. Instead, he came to camp looking to play his way into shape. Adelman hasn't allowed him to play enough for that to happen. "He's not the player that he once was because he's slowed down; he's aged," said Tracy McGrady, who has two years more NBA experience than Francis. "He still can play despite him slowing down," said McGrady. "He's a smart basketball player. He's a very versatile basketball player. He knows how to play this game." "Without a doubt, he will help us out." [READ]

Wesley has played 14 seasons in the NBA, including one season in New Jersey (1993-94). He holds career averages of 12.5 points and 4.4 assists per game. Robinson was acquired by the Nets on January 3, 2007 from the Charlotte Bobcats . He averaged 1.0 point in 10 games with New Jersey last season. Over his three-year NBA career, Robinson has averages of 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 128 games. Ilic, the Nets' second round selection (43rd overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft, appeared in five games with the New Jersey as a rookie in 2006-07, totaling one rebound in six minutes of action. It appears unlikely either Gary Payton or Earl Boykins is headed Sacramento's way. Because the Kings are over the salary cap and out of exceptions, they can offer only the minimum salary. A league source said the Kings inquired about Boykins and that he would not accept the minimum, and it's unclear whether there is interest from either side regarding Payton. There have, however, been discussions about unemployed point guard Keith McLeod, a five-year veteran who has started 88 of his 200 games and averaged 18.6 minutes per game for four teams (Indiana last season). Extension Not Likely For Pacers' Harrison 데이비드 해리슨이 연장 계약을 맺을 것 같지는 않다고 하네요.
Indianapolis Star - 10/29 - 8:10 AM EST
With the Oct. 31 deadline just two days away, all indications point to Pacers center David Harrison not getting a contract extension. Pacers president Larry Bird said earlier this month that they were going to let things "play out" before deciding if the fourth-year player would get an extension. Pacers officials don't feel like they have to rush to extend Harrison because he'll be a restricted free agent next summer, meaning they have the right to match any offer he receives. Harrison averaged 3.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 14 minutes during the preseason. [READ]
Dalembert Ready To Return To Lineup 새미가 스타팅 라인업으로 돌아올 준비가 되었다고 합니다.
Philadelphia Daily News - 10/29 - 4:41 AM EST
Samuel Dalembert, coming back from a stress fracture in his left foot, made it through two weekend practices, seemingly significantly increasing the chances of him being available for Wednesday's season opener in Toronto. He went though drills but no contact Saturday. He felt his level of optimism climbing, with the caveat of waiting to see how he would feel today. "After that, everything is just . . . pray," said Dalembert, who revealed that he has grown to 267 pounds after weighing between 245 and 250 last season, when he was the only Sixer to start all 82 games. "Hopefully, it doesn't get worse or be unbearable. Chances are good [to be ready against the Raptors]. I have to admit, I was surprised myself [yesterday]." [READ]

Philadelphia Inquirer - 10/29 - 4:39 AM EST
With a deadline of 11:59 P.M. Wednesday looming, the talks between the 76ers and Andre Iguodala regarding a contract extension have taken on a sense of urgency. Iguodala's agent, Rob Pelinka, flew from his office in California to meet for three hours yesterday with Billy King, the Sixers' President and General Manager. According to NBA rules, if an extension is not agreed to by Wednesday night, the two sides cannot meet again until July. At that point, Iguodala could be a restricted free agent, but the Sixers would retain the right to match any offer. Still, it's clear that both sides hope to avoid that scenario. [READ]
불스는 서둘러 고든, 뎅과의 계약을 마무리 짖고 싶어 합니다.
Chicago Tribune - 10/29 - 0:51 AM EST
With the Wednesday deadline for extensions looming, Bulls GM Paxson asked Luol Deng and Ben Gordon for one-on-one meetings to try to outline the Bulls' position in terms of their salary structure and the current restricted-free-agent market. The process was similar to what Paxson did with Kirk Hinrich at the same time last year, which led to Hinrich agreeing to and signing a five-year, $47.5 million contract extension. The Bulls have talked parameters of five-year, $50 million deals with agents for both players. Deng offered at least a window into his thinking recently and perhaps indicated he'd sign if the Bulls slightly increased their financial commitment. "If somebody had told me that at some point in my career, I'd make 'X' amount of dollars, of course you would take it," Deng said. "But it's a business, and you have to understand that negotiating is part of the situation." The Deng negotiations have mirrored the Hinrich talks — initial pessimism despite cordial talks, a Paxson request for a meeting and at least a glimmer of hope a deal would get done. No such optimism exists in the Gordon negotiations. [READ]
Magic's Bogans Captures Starting Spot Over Redick 매직이 키스 보건스를 스타팅으로 생각하고 있다고 하네요.
USA Today - 10/28 - 5:14 PM EST
The mistakes have been few for Orlando's Keith Bogans since a dubious start to the preseason. The expected battle for the starting shooting-guard slot has mostly fizzled because of injuries to J.J. Redick (hand), Trevor Ariza (foot) and Keyon Dooling (groin). But even if those players had been healthy, it would be hard to imagine them playing much better this preseason than Bogans. The 6-foot-5 guard has done everything Stan Van Gundy has asked of him, whether it's guarding the likes of LeBron James, Joe Johnson and Jason Richardson or knocking down open shots. Bogans shot a stellar 54.3% from the floor this preseason while also making a staggering 13 of 22 tries (59.1 percent) from three-point range. So Bogans has overcome the early barbs from Van Gundy, and these days there's nothing but praise for arguably the Magic's grittiest player. "He's our best perimeter defender; there's not much question about that," Van Gundy said. "He's a very good rebounder on a team that needs rebounding. And he's shot the ball unbelievably. He's done everything we could have hoped for. He's gotten himself in great shape, and he's playing well." [READ] |
