< 시간의 전치사 >
1. at, on, in
'~에'라는 뜻으로 at은 시각이나 특정 시점을 나타내고, on은 날짜, 요일, 특정한 날이나 수식어가 붙을 때 사용한다.
in은 연도, 월, 계절 같은 긴 기간이나 시간의 경과를 나타낸다.
School is over at 4 o'clock
A surprising event happened on the morning of May 5.
I was a famous baseball player in my youth.
The report will be ready in a week.
2. until, by
'~ 까지'라는 의미로 until[till]은 계속되어 온 동작이나 상태의 계속을 나타내고, by는 완료를 나타낸다.
I waited for his call until midnight.
He didn't come home until next morning. (~이 되어서야 ....하다 )
You must finish this job by noon.
You have to be back by 9 o'clock
3. for, during, through
'~ 동안 '이라는 뜻으로 for는 기간의 길이를, during은 특정 기간을 나타낸다.
through는 '~동안 내내' 라는 의미이다.
He has worked in the company for two weeks.
I stayed at my grandparents' during the vacation.
She looked after me through my long illness.
4. before, after.
before는 '~전에', after는 '~후에 '라는 뜻이다.
We left for the airport before sunrise.
I watched TV after dinner.
5. since, from ~ to .....
since는 '~이래로 (계속 해서)' 라는 의미로 현재완료와 함께 사용되며, 이전부터 현재까지의 동작이나
상태의 계속을 나타낸다. from ~to .... 는 ' ~부터 ... 까지'의 뜻이다.
I haven't eaten since breakfast.
My boss will be gone from Monday to Wednesday.
6. around
대충, 약…, …쯤(about)
His flight arrives at eight-thirty. It's a little over an hour to our office from the airport, depending on traffic.
He should be here around a quarter to ten.
비행기가 8시 30분에 도착해요. 공항에서 우리 사무실까지는 교통 사정에 따라 한 시간 남짓 걸리니까
여기에는 10시 15분 전쯤에 도착하겠네요
