According to the World Obesity Federation, more than half of the world’s population will be classed as obese or overweight by 2035 and its social cost will amount to a staggering $4trn. This article insinuates that It is high time for us to move. To combat the acute social problem however, one powerful solution sounds like a walk in the park. I wholeheartedly believe that “Walking” is the most simple yet effective way to the pursuit of managing good health physically and even intellectually due to its myriad benefits. Let me walk you through this.
Walking is essential for people as it contributes to weight management by strengthening muscle on legs. My personal story can underscore the efficacy of the activity. When I just finished my duty of defense, I was a lean man. Unlike my thought that the weight would spring back to the past, I could maintain my body for quite a while. This is because I walked whenever the weather was fine. As the day of the walk piled up, I found my legs a bit sturdy and durable. This turned out to be somewhat factual as I measured my body composition via In-body. The result indicated that the muscle mass of my legs was above average, meaning high basal metabolism. This experience taught me how beneficial walking is for losing weight and intensifying the lower body.
What’s more, our brain is also the beneficiary of walking. This is because the area of the brain responsible for focus and attention activates while taking a brisk walk. In my life, walking has served me to focus on studying. For the last 6 months, I commuted to an AI education institution sitting 30 min away from departure on foot. I didn’t want to spend that time only for the sake of walking. Therefore, NPR, Ted Talk and various informative podcasts had become my best background music. It helped me acquire new knowledge and English expressions everyday. Moreover, as I recited paragraphs of the book, titled The Fifty Wonders of Korea, I could memorize several chapters of it at the end of the education period. All these things were done easily compared to doing so sitting. This experience vividly shows walking is not just bodily-productive but also intellectually effective.
In conclusion, taking a simple walk brings about a world of difference in our life. The hard-to achieve-benefits from the easiest movement can enhance physical and intellectual performance of every walks of life. Hopefully, all citizens will bask in the walk in the park job so that they can keep obesity at bay and stay sharp.
