All right ,
Welcome everyone
to another segment of fitted to fish
presented by Tampa fishing outfitters
you probably saw our first video
where we went over the ins and outs
and the intricacies of all the cast Nets
that's offered inside the humpback lineup
Now we're gonna get out here
and show you how to throw one
alright
so we're gonna get into coming off of our video
where we talked about the different mesh sizes lengths weight ratios
now we're going to get into how to throw
one of these cast nets well are typically like a 12-foot net
here we're gonna do a demo on a 10-foot net as that's our most popular size
and that's the most requested one that people want to come in and figure out how to throw
I think what you'll find is when you jump up from anything below ten foot
and you get into that ten foot or larger cast net
it's gonna be much easier the more you divide that net
so we're gonna be going over the triple load method
alright of course this isn't the only way
there's a thousand different ways
it's just the way I do it
for me day in day out
you know two hundred plus days on the water
this is going to give me the less fatigue
I'm the least amount of fatigue on my back
but also produce the best result in
1:00
terms of a full open net that I need to
1:02
catch baby alright first thing you need
1:04
to ask yourself is which hand do I throw
1:06
with so I usually say the that's the
1:07
frisbee question I throw a frisbee with
1:09
my right hand so that's the way I want
1:10
to mimic throwing the cast net is the
1:12
same way you do that if you throw with
1:13
your left hand everything's gonna be
1:15
opposite here but for this video we're
1:17
doing throw the frisbee with your right
1:18
hand alright so first thing you're gonna
1:20
do is just put the rope over there over
1:25
the left hand if you throw with your
1:26
right hand alright so I just go over now
1:28
there's a lot of people who double it
1:29
over cinch it down for me I've seen too
1:32
many accidents and things happen with
1:34
that net tied down I've never had a
1:36
problem with coming off but that's
1:37
totally optional however you want to
1:39
secure that and then you're gonna make
1:40
some big loops I call them arm length
1:41
loops alright and you're just gonna coil
1:43
that rope use an arm length and the
1:45
reason I like to go arm length they're
1:46
not smaller is I want the least amount
1:48
of rope material in my hand because I'm
1:50
gonna stall so be putting a lot of this
1:51
mesh in there
1:52
alright so big loops doesn't need to be
1:56
perfect just when you get to the end
1:57
what you want to make sure is you don't
1:59
have too much rope hanging like I do
2:01
here so I'll come back one more time and
2:03
just grab it so it's nice and close to
2:05
that swivel there alright you gonna
2:07
stretch the net all the way out one key
2:09
thing is the horn on the net this
2:10
plastic piece which divides all of your
2:12
Braille lines he
2:13
you want that to be as close to the top as you can
so sometimes you may need to walk away
stretch it out a little bit
but get it up there close
so you don't have all this extra Braille hanging out
that's just begging for a tangle
all right
so get it close on a ten-foot net
I'll choke up about a foot or so from the bottom of the horn
putting that in my left hand
always keeping my palms to the sky and thumbs out
whenever I'm touching the net
and grabbing the net
let's just keep everything together
real nice
all right
so you're gonna walk it down
you need to get this to about waist high
all right our belt loop high so
once I've got it there in my right hand
you can drop that out and like I said
palms with Sky thumbs out
everything's gonna go into the left hand
so now I've got the entire net loaded in the left hand
first we're gonna get the a little bit of the net to go of our shoulder
so
I like to flip all that excess out of the way
get it out of the way
then basically wherever your left foot
is wherever your left toe is grab the
net somewhere in there and you want to
3:09
pick off about ten percent of the net
3:11
making sure that when you do that you
3:13
don't get any excess Braille lines that
3:15
are gonna cause a tangle once you have
3:17
that flip it right over the left
3:19
shoulder there's a lot of people who
3:20
like to go under the shoulder there's a
3:23
lot of different ways to do it but for
3:24
me this is the most time effective and
3:25
it works so go over the shoulder with
3:28
that next you have the option you can
3:30
either put this in your teeth and start
3:33
to load it but you don't have to all
3:35
right so since I need to talk while I'm
3:37
doing this I'm not gonna do that I'm
3:38
just gonna get the net load up about you
3:41
know 25-30 percent of this net all right
3:44
making sure again that as I'm doing it
3:47
I'm not creating any new tangles in it
3:48
once I've got that these three fingers
3:51
are what's going to hold the bulk of the
3:53
net I loaded the in the index and the
3:55
thumb need to grab a lead ball so I like
3:57
to keep those out just kind of roll it
3:59
down just so I get those three fingers
4:02
around the middle of the net and then
4:04
with the index and the thumb grab a lead
4:08
ball all right so now I'm loaded up and
4:11
ready to throw and the key to this throw
4:12
is is really about momentum you can spin
4:16
you can torque your body but whatever
4:18
you do is you want to make sure you can
4:19
get enough momentum this snap is a 10
4:21
foot 1.6 pounds per foot so it's 16
4:24
pounds of net here so it takes a little
4:25
bit of force to to get this thing
4:27
rolling
4:27
for me I just like to sway the net rock
4:29
it forward rock it back and then launch
4:31
it and when I say when you're launching
4:33
it think about like you're throwing a
4:34
bucket of water on somebody alright that
4:36
launch is just gonna be right at your
4:37
target I'm not gonna try and shoot it
4:39
way up in the air and have it land on
4:41
somebody I'm gonna try and splash that
4:43
target directly in front of me and last
4:45
but not least definitely not least most
4:47
important is that lead ball that I've
4:49
gotten my fingers that's the last part
4:51
of the net you need to let go I say that
4:53
because when you put that resistance and
4:55
you pull back or hold on to that lead
4:57
ball that is what's going to make the
4:59
net spin and open up if you if you fail
5:02
to do that what you're gonna find is
5:04
you're gonna be throwing a lot of net
5:05
out there and it's gonna kind of looking
5:06
like in that banana shape hopefully I
5:08
don't do that now all right I'm gonna go
5:10
ahead and give this thing a launch we're
5:11
gonna take a look at it maybe even slow
5:13
it down for you and assess kind of how
5:15
that how that for a look and see if
5:16
there's any issues with it all right so
5:18
like I said little momentum forward
5:20
little momentum back making sure those
5:22
weights stay in unison well you don't
5:25
want to happen is when you start rocking
5:26
forward and back is these things bumping
5:29
in together if you're bumping in
5:30
together you're not timing it right okay
5:31
so we're just gonna rock it forward rock
5:34
it back so we threw the net we've got a
5:43
pretty decent spread here I've
5:44
definitely seen better but this is going
5:47
to get you betta every time what's
5:48
important is that it's all spread out
5:50
and you don't have a bunch of stack here
5:52
in the middle and honestly with these
5:55
newer nets that met you know they might
5:56
have a little bit of memory as you start
5:58
to throw and use this net that's gonna
5:59
work itself out and open even wider but
6:02
this will get baten anywhere you know
6:03
whether it's flats deep water a spread
6:06
like this with a 10-foot net that's
6:07
gonna that's going to go down it's gonna
6:09
sink fast it's gonna make a nice big
6:10
opening and you're gonna whack them all
6:12
right what I encourage you to do if you
6:14
can get into the store
6:15
Tampa fishing outfitters most of the
6:18
staff here is going to be able to take
6:20
you outside do this one-on-one with you
6:22
and you guys can diagnose your you know
6:24
your net skills together figure out what
6:26
your nets gonna be best for you alright
6:28
so come on in thanks for watching fitted
