Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have now caught." Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not torn. John 21:10-11
At the end of the Gospel of John, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written." We are now discussing the seven words after the resurrection of the Lord, but we can see that they have recorded only what is absolutely necessary. Therefore, it is natural and essential to think about what the Lord wants to say to us after the resurrection from what is written here.
After the resurrection of the Lord, the disciples returned to their livelihood: catching fish. But considering that the Lord compared fish to catching them and told them that I would let you become a fisherman who catches people, it can be said that their going to catch fish went back to the old way of evangelizing. In any case, however, there was no consequence for them. They threw nets all night long, and got nothing. There the LORD appeared.
The LORD told them to throw the net on the right side of the ship, but they did as they were, but they could not hold it because there were too many fish. They climbed onto the land and counted 153 large fish. But it is recorded that the net is not torn. What does the LORD want to tell us who live today through this record? Each of us has our own needs for our own lives, or we have our own needs of faith.
After the resurrection, the LORD appears to us to fulfill the needs of our lives and the demands of our faith. And he has shown that it is not the result of our hard work, but of the power of the LORD. A similar situation occurred when the disciples first met the LORD. At that time, they did not know who the Lord was, but they caught a lot of fish when they obeyed as he said. But then their nets were torn.
Living and religious life in the world are like catching fish with a net. However, sometimes you catch a lot of fish, and the net is torn apart. Homes are torn apart, churches are torn apart, and people-to-people relationships are broken. When there are many good situations with each other when you don't have anything, you experience these torn experiences. So I once said that the number 153 here is the number that will peacefully fulfill the separation of the church in the richest place.
But it's not the numbers that matter. What the Lord wants to tell us in today's situation is not to realize the wishes themselves, but to know that the resurrected Lord is with us. When the time comes, our church becomes 153 we will separate it into two 70-member churches in peace. And we will let people know that the Lord is resurrected. Of course, this is not a matter of numbers. Today, when the Lord makes our faiths and our lives fulfill our wishes, you should not only rejoice in them, but also rejoice in the fact that the Lord is resurrected and with us.
