A reportage of stations along the circular JR Yamanote line in Tokyo, capturing the hustle and bustle at the heart of the world’s biggest urban area. In service since 1885, the line is the city’s oldest, most important and most famous, with millions cramming on to the 35km (22-mile) route’s distinctive green cars every day.

🚊🚄야마노테선(山手線)은 도쿄(東京)에서 가장 붐비고 중요한 노선 중 하나로서 마루노우치(丸の内), 유라쿠초(有楽町), 긴자(銀座), 시나가와(品川), 시부야(渋谷), 신주쿠(新宿), 이케부쿠로(池袋), 우에노(上野) 등 도쿄의 주요 역과 도심 대부분을 연결하며, 다른 철도나 지하철 노선으로 연결하는 30개의 역 중 2개를 제외한 모든 역을 연결한다. 내부적으로 JR 동일본(JR東日本)에서는 "야마노테선(山手線)"을 신주쿠(新宿)를 경유하여 시나가와(品川)와 타바타(田端) 사이를 연결하는 4복선노선(複線路線) 20.6km 회랑으로 지칭한다. 회랑은 야마노테 지역 열차가 사용하는 1조의 선로와 사이쿄(埼京線) 및 쇼난-신주쿠선(湘南新宿) 열차, 일부 특급 서비스 및 화물 열차가 사용하는 "야마노테 화물선(山手貨物線)"이라는 또 다른 평행노선(平行線路) 1조로 구성된다. 일상적인 사용, 지도 및 역 간판의 브랜드 표시에서 "야마노테선(山手線)"은 전체 34.5km 노선 신주쿠역(新宿驛)을 경유하는 야마노테 회랑과 도쿄역(東京駅)을 경유하는 도호쿠(東北本線) 및 도카이도 본선(東海道本線)의 중심부 사이를 순환하는 지역 서비스("시스템"이라고도 함)를 나타낸다.
