Week in wildlife: a fish dinner and Galápagos wonders

🌊🐥🪶검은등제비갈매기(Onychoprion fuscatus; 오니초프리온 푸스카투스)는 갈매기과(Laridae)의 제비갈매기이다. 열대 해양의 바닷새이며 놀랍게도 수년 동안 날 수 있는 능력을 발달시켜 먹이를 위해 바다 표면을 스치며, 번식을 위해서만 육지로 돌아오며 적도 지역 전역의 섬에서 지낸다. 1766년 칼 린네우스는 검은등제비갈매기를 스테르나 푸스카타(Sterna fuscata)로 묘사했으며, 스테르나 속이 분리될 때까지 오랜 세월 동안 이 이름을 사용했다. 현재는 오니초프리온(Onychoprion) 속에서 오니초프리온 푸스카투스(Onychoprion fuscatus)로 분류된다. 속명은 고대 그리스 어녹스(onux), "클로(claw)" 또는 "못(nail)", 그리고 프리온(pion), "톱(saw)"에서 유래했다. 종명 푸스카투스는 라틴어로 "어두운"을 의미한다. 검은등제비갈매기는 종간 변이가 거의 없지만 보통 6~8개의 동종 아종으로 나뉜다. 최근 일부 저자들은 인도태평양 개체군을 최대 8개의 아종으로 더 세분화했지만, 대부분의 변이는 임상적이다. 동태평양 조류(이스터 섬의 O. f. 마누타루스 포함)의 친화성이 가장 강하게 논쟁되고 있다. 현재 IOC는 6개의 아종을 인정하고 있다.
