South Korea's new acting President Lee Ju-ho on Friday instructed the military to raise its readiness posture to the "highest level," and called for thorough preparations to ensure the June 3 presidential election will proceed in an "orderly" and "fair" manner.
한국의 신임 대통령 권한대행 이주호는 금요일 군에 대비 태세를 "최고 수준"으로 격상할 것을 지시하고, 6월 3일 대통령 선거가 "질서 있고" "공정하게" 진행될 수 있도록 철저한 준비를 촉구했다.
 
Lee, the deputy prime minister for social affairs and education minister, gave the instructions in an emergency directive to all government ministries and agencies, and public servants after he took the role of the acting president following the resignation of former acting President Han Duck-soo and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok.
사회부총리 겸 교육부 장관인 이 대통령은 한덕수 전 대통령 권한대행과 최상목 경제부총리의 사임에 따라 대통령 권한대행을 맡은 후 모든 정부부처와 기관, 공무원들에게 긴급 지시를 내렸다.
 
"The government should do its utmost so as to continue state governance stably without any vacuum in state affairs or any confusion," he said in the directive.
그는 지시문에서 "정부는 국정 공백이나 혼란 없이 안정적으로 국정 운영을 지속할 수 있도록 최선을 다해야 한다"고 말했다.
 
Lee directed acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho to thoroughly manage military vigilance and preparedness and to elevate the country's military readiness posture to the highest level to be able to respond "rapidly and sternly" to any and all types of provocations.
이 대통령은 김선호 국방부 장관 대행에게 군사 경계와 대비 태세를 철저히 관리하고, 모든 종류의 도발에 "신속하고 단호하게" 대응할 수 있도록 국가의 군사 대비 태세를 최고 수준으로 격상하라고 지시했다.
 
He also called on Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Kim Myung-soo to ensure a solid military operational command system, and to double-check and reinforce the readiness posture of all military units so as to be able to respond swiftly and sternly in the event of a contingency.
그는 또한 김명수 합참의장에게 견고한 군사 작전 지휘 체계를 보장하고, 모든 군부대의 대비 태세를 재확인하고 강화하여 만일의 사태에 신속하고 엄중하게 대응할 수 있도록 할 것을 촉구했다.
 
He instructed Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul to cooperate closely with key friendly nations to maintain international trust in South Korea and thoroughly respond to manage pending diplomatic issues in a "watertight" manner.
그는 조태열 외교부 장관에게 주요 우호국들과 긴밀히 협력하여 한국에 대한 국제적 신뢰를 유지하고 외교 현안을 "무샐틈없이" 관리할 것을 지시했다.
 
The acting president called on acting Interior Minister Ko Ki-dong to engage in active consultations with relevant ministries and provincial governments to provide all support to ensure that the upcoming presidential election will take place in a fair and orderly way.
대통령 권한대행은 고기동 내무부 장관 대행에게 다가오는 대통령 선거가 공정하고 질서 있게 치러질 수 있도록 모든 지원을 제공하기 위해 관련 부처 및 지방 정부와 적극적인 협의를 할 것을 촉구했다.
 
He also instructed all public servants to maintain strict work discipline and political neutrality ahead of the presidential election.
그는 또한 모든 공무원들에게 대통령 선거를 앞두고 엄격한 업무 규율과 정치적 중립을 유지하라고 지시했다.
 
He requested that acting Fiance Minister Kim Beom-suk make all efforts to prepare against potential financial market volatility and minimize economic uncertainties.
