📢🌨️허리케인 헐린(/hɛˈliːn/ ⓘ hehl-EEN)은 크고 치명적이며 재앙적이고 빠르게 움직이는 열대저기압이었다. 플로리다주의 빅 벤드 지역을 강타한 기록상 가장 강력했으며 미국 남동부 일부를 황폐화시켰다. 2024년 대서양 허리케인 시즌의 8번째 명명된 폭풍, 5번째 허리케인, 2번째 주요 허리케인인 헐린은 9월 중순에 중앙 아메리카 소용돌이(Central American gyre)로 알려진 저기압의 넓은 영역 내에서 서부 카리브海에서 발생한 교란에서 점진적으로 발전했다. 9월 24일까지 교란(disturbance)은 유카탄 반도에 접근하면서 열대 폭풍이 될 만큼 통합되었고, 국립 허리케인 센터에서 헐린(Helene)이라는 이름을 받았다. 유리한 조건으로 인해 사이클론이 점차 강화되었고 9월 25일 초에 허리케인이 되었다. 헐린이 다음 날 멕시코灣을 통과하면서 더욱 두드러지고 빠르게 강화되어 9월 26일 저녁에 4등급 강도에 도달했다. 9월 26일 늦게 헐린은 페리 시 근처 플로리다주의 빅 벤드 지역에 최대 강도로 상륙했으며, 최대 지속 풍속은 140mph(220km/h)였다. 헐린은 열대 폭풍으로 퇴화되기 전에 빠르게 내륙으로 이동하면서 약화되었다. 9월 27일 테네시주 상공에 사이클론이 발생했다. 그 후 폭풍은 9월 29일에 사라지기 전에 주 상공에 정체되었다. 헐린의 예상 상륙에 앞서 플로리다와 조지아 주지사는 매우 높은 폭풍 해일을 포함하여 예상되는 상당한 영향으로 인해 비상사태를 선포했다. 해안과 허리케인 급 돌풍이 애틀랜타 내륙까지 불고 있다. 허리케인 경보는 헐린의 빠른 이동으로 인해 내륙으로 더 확장되었다. 이 폭풍은 또한 특히 노스캐롤라이나주 서부와 테네시주 동부에서 엄청난 강우로 인한 홍수를 일으켰고 수많은 토네이도를 발생시켰다. 10월 1일 현재 총 162명이 사망했다. 헬렌은 2005년 카트리나에 이어 지난 50년 동안 미국 본토를 강타한 두 번째로 치명적인 허리케인이 되었다.
