Right after the first operation, I was able to come home in three days. I dropped in Changandong to see my mother. She looked better than I had thought. We hurried to my sister’s home because the next day was lunar New Year and only my sister could take care of me. She is almost professional with more than twenty years in the hospital. Se had thirteen surgical operations and depends on nursing patients for her livelihood. She did know what to do for me-especially food. Because I didn’t have any stomach left, eating was not an easy thing- some food disagreed with me. I vomited what I took in, which means that my intestines rejected it. The food on the manual the hospital gave me was not helpful in that it was not specific, but rather overlapping. On the third day’s morning I lost my consciousness and was taken to the hospital again in comma. When I arrived I was next to death. According to my doctor, my intestines inter twisted and part of them got rotten. So food didn’t get through the anus, but rather flew backward. All the the organs were contaminated by the waste. The doctor said I could do nothing but renal dialysis, Especially, my heart and kidney ware more damaged so before the doctor had a surgical operation on the intestines, he needed to purify the whole blood in my body for seven days. By luck, I restored my consciousness in seven days. My blood pressure got normal but my kidney doesn’t work at all. Any way, it was possible for the doctor to try operation on me. The problem was my kidney. My body didn’t produce any urine for five days. I was obliged to endure tedious four hours in the dialysis room again. However, there was no sign of my kidney working, which made me very frustrated. To spend four days every day getting dialysis for the rest of life! It would be a real nightmare. After getting advice about the amount of water, I drank as much as possible-one liter. On the third days, the dormant organ made a little response-I put out 10 cc out of the blue. But it was not enough to attract doctors’ attention. On the fifth days, I got 100 cc. Then the doctor showed a little bit attention of his to it. After ten days, I could get even 3 00cc. You know my case is acute renal failure and there was an chance of it getting normal. He was positive about my condition. However, despite the good signal, it didn't meet its criteria. But my doctor was so optimistic that he stop dialysis even two weeks. Strange enough, I had no bad sign when it comes to my body. When my mind was more complicated, another pain attacked my body. It is called shingles. It is related to my weak immunity. Once it attacked my body, I could do anything but endure it. It has no cure to speak of. The doctor handed me antibiotic and some cure, and said they are not effective against the disease. They can just somewhat alleviate your pain. Anyway, its pain is beyond our common sense. I thought it was destroying my soul-I cannot do anything with it. I experienced almost all pain through four operations but it was the strongest and bitterest I had ever gotten through.
As the doctor gave me a week’s grace to take care of my personal affairs,I came home with a catheter. Two plants were dead and the empty house felt cold. I was not able to walk because all the muscle in my body dis appeared completely. My head made my body tilt forward. Losing the balance, I turned over three times while getting off the bus. I did my best to walk and keep regimen for seven days.
On the morning I returned to the hospital, I prayed to God in my mind, “Please help me with your almighty power so that my kidney might work normally.
My pray was answered as soon as I entered the doctor’s room. He was waiting for me with the computer on. Mr. Choe, what did you do while you are at home. You need not to get dialysis any more. My eyes were in tears.
