이희영, 양현진 원장님의 최소절개 광대 수술에 관한 논문 'Minimally invasive zygoma reduction(최소 침습적인 광대뼈 축소)'이 세계적인 성형외과학 학술 저널인 Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery(PRS. http://www.plasreconsurg.com) 2006년 5월호에 게재되었습니다. 논문에서는 안면 윤곽 교정을 위해 광대뼈 수술을 하는 새로운 방법으로 5mm의 입안 절개를 통한 최소한의 침습적인 방법을 제시하였습니다. 이 방법을 통해 뛰어난 미용적인 효과를 가지면서도 수술시간이 단축되고 , 붓기 감소를 통해 회복기간을 획기적으로 줄였습니다. 논문게재를 통해 세계적으로 광대뼈성형술에 관한 새로운 대안을 제시할 뿐만 아니라 본원의 최소절개 광대 수술과 이희영원장님이 개발하신 최소절개윤곽수술장비인 Easy Contour가 국내뿐만 아니라 전 세계적으로 또 한번 인정받는 계기가 되었습니다.

미국 성형외과 학회의 공식 학회지 입니다. 이 저널은 미국뿐만 아니라 세계적으로 권위를 인정받고 있는 학회지 입니다. 성형외과학의 최신 이론이나 기술이 실린 저널로서, 엄격한 심사를 거쳐 전 세계적으로 가장 뛰어난 성형외과학 저널들이 게재됩니다. 쉽게 말하면 성형외과학계의 네이저(Nature)나 사이언스(Science)지라고 할 수 있습니다.

Abstract:
Background: It is universally accepted that zygoma reduction is one of the best strategies for facial contouring for Asian patients, and many studies have been conducted regarding this subject. However, these studies have continued to perform the zygoma reduction by sectioning the complete malar eminence to fix it into a new location, which requires a wide range of periosteum dissection to expose the bone sufficiently for correct osteotomy.

Methods: In this study, with the help of a new instrument, the authors have applied a new minimally invasive, blind technique to zygoma reduction with multiple scoring and molding. The minimally invasive zygoma reduction was performed through a 5-mm intraoral stab incision, and the authors have operated on over 271 male and female patients.

Results: As a result, the authors could reduce the operation time and the postoperative swelling and have achieved greater cosmetic effects and enlarged indications compared with those of conventional methods. The well-known complications of cheek drooping, facial nerve injury, temporomandibular joint injury, and malunion were absent. In particular, because of the relatively reduced swelling, most of the patients could resume activities of daily life within 3 days after the operation.

Conclusion: Therefore, the authors recommend this new minimally invasive zygoma reduction as another option for zygoma reduction.
