Warm Regards
Surely you know the man called by ‘Daethgabudo’*
None doesn’t know him, there in Gunsan.
Out the Haemangdong tunnel,
Keeping his head steady, as big as a watermalon,
Aroung the quayside in the rain,
Singing a military song to the fishy whistling of a boat,
Was the lad.
Guess he became old enough.
As if on a silky texture
Likewise Jesus did,
Wishing to tread on the sea,
Now he has gone over forty years in peace.
It was our Kingdom, under the wall of primary school.
‘Look, it’s Daethgabudo, crazy! you raver!’
The kiddies were spitting,
Throwing stones to him.
Usually Daethgabudo said,
‘Get out! Are you mad? you crazy?’
Oh, his outcries were whirling
Into the blue sky like an empty wind.
Over the sky so beautiful in blue
A few planes were flying away.
Surely I believe,
Before me,
He would die.
My compassion as steady as a sapping-up in jujube twigs,
There’s no way to send it to him……
We became grown up as expected
And our children are also growing up,
Covered with mud and earth.
In a secret page of my memorandum
Daethgabudo is growing older and older unfairely.
