While reviewing the conditions of Korea after the war, United States General Douglas MacArthur famously predicted, “It will take them 100 years to recover from the devastation.”



"It will take at least 100 years for South Korea to recover from the war." U.S. General Douglas MacArthur, the supreme commander of the Allied forces, once said after the Korean War was over.


한국전쟁 이후 한반도의 모습은 희망을 잃은 좌절만이 느껴졌습니다. 당시 유엔군 총사령관인 맥아더 장군은 전쟁 직후의 대한민국의 모습을 보고 이렇게 말합니다. 

"이 나라가 복구되려면 최소 100년은 걸릴 것이다." 

하지만 한국은 빠른 성장을 보이며 세계 10위권의 강국이 되는데 60년 남짓이 걸렸습니다.

On 11 April 1951, U.S. president Harry S. Truman relieved General of the Army Douglas MacArthur of his commands after MacArthur made public statements that contradicted the administration's policies.

MacArthur was a popular hero of World War II who was then commander of United Nations Command forces fighting in the Korean War, and his relief remains a controversial topic in the field of civil–military relations.
