Characteristics 1. The name for a group of risk factors that raises the risk for heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
Metabolic Risk Factors
1. Diagnosis requires presence of three or more of the following: 2. Abdominal obesity: large waist size: For men: 40 inches or larger; for women: 35 inches or larger. 3. High triglyceride level: 150 mg/dl or higher or using a cholesterol medicine. 4. Cholesterol: low HDL cholesterol; for men, less than 40 mg/dL; for women: less than 50 mg/dL or using a cholesterol medicine. 5. High blood pressure: systolic BP 135 mmHg or higher and/or diastolic pressure 85 mmHg or higher. 6. Blood sugar: fasting plasma glucose level 100 mg/dL or higher. |
