미국에서 인기가 있다고 우리나라에서도 인기있는 음악이라는 얘기는 아니다.
그 중 대표적인 예가 데이브 매튜스 밴드라고 할수있겠다.
 루츠락계에서는 최고의 거물이고, 대학가에서 가장 인기있는 그룹.
 이루말할 수 없는 칭호를 붙이지만..
적어도 우리나라에서는 이런 그룹이 있었단 말인가 라는 소리를 듣는다.

 

그들의 음악은 일단... 루츠락에 바탕을 두면서
다양한 음악적 접근을 한다.
재즈..레게,아프리카 토속음악 등
데이브 매튜스는 남아공 출신이다.
그것은 전형적인 락그룹과는 틀리게 더 많은 악기를 쓴다는 것
 섹스폰과 바이올린이 그룹안에 들어가서 조화를 이룬다.
지금 흐르는 이 음악은 아담 샌들러의 영화 '미스터 디즈'에 삽입되었었다.

이 밴드는 미국에서 통산 천 오백만장도 넘는 앨범을 판매했지만
역시 신기할정도로 우리나라에서 크게 어필하지 못하는 밴드 이다.
밴드이름도 보컬의 이름을 딴 조금 촌스러운 이 밴드는
약 십년전인 1991년에 버지니아에서
보컬 테이브 메튜스를 주축으로 지역의 재즈 음악을 하던 이들이 모여서 결성 됬다고한다

 

이들은 블루스 ...컨츄리...펑키등등... 다장르에서 뛰어난 연주력과 감각을 보여준다.
특히 데이브 매튜스는 유투의 보노나 카운팅크로우스의 애덤 듀릿츠를

떠올리게 할 정도로 감성적 보컬을 보여준다
