Section 19 : Jaim(自任,자임)... Naturally Bestowed... Article 23.
Jaim(自任,자임) does not originate from somewhere else,
but rather from the Sincerity(誠,성) that one is naturally endowed with from birth.
Being able to reach this state from within oneself, without seeking it elsewhere,
is like the changing of spring and autumn, and the alternating of the sun and the Moon.
◆ Orlginal Text (Classical Chinese & Phonetic Korean)◆
■ 自任者는 不由他而專其自然之誠이니 (자임자는 불유타이전기자연지성이니)
(Jaim - ja - neun bul - yu - ta - i - jeon - gi - ji - yeon - ji - seong - i - ni)
One who practices Jaim does not rely on others,
but focuses solely on their own natural sincerity.
■ 不求而自至하야 如春秋之代序하며 (불구이자지하야 여춘추지대서하며)
(bul - gu - i - ja - ji - ha - yeo - yeo - chun - chu - ji - dae - seo - ha - myeo)
It arrives naturally without seeking,
just as spring and autumn follow their order.
■ 日月之相替라. (일월지상체라.)
(II - wol - ji - sang - che - ra)
and the sun and the moon replace one another.
▣ Interpretation / Explanation.▣
Sincerity originates from the One God(一神,일신) that exists within
the center of a human being from birth.
This is the essence that becomes the center of all things in the universe.
※ Key Concepts for Context :
● Sincerity(誠,성 - Seong) : In this philosophical context(often found in Korean Donghak
or Jeungsando traditions), "Sincerity" it′s just an emotion,
it′s a fundamental cosmic force or the "true nature" of a human.
● Natural Law : The text compares human virtue to the orbits of the sun and moon
to suggest that being "true" to oneself should be as effortless and
inevitable as the seasons.
