„For Christ’s love compels us“ (2Cor 5:14a)
We thank God for the baptism of brother Zhenya this Easter. Brother Zhenya was used to suffer from alcoholism, but his life is transformed when he has come to the rehabilitation center. He is accepted Jesus, started coming to church to worship, got a job, and started living a normal life. God put a spiritual desire in his heart to be baptized, and he was baptized this Easter after completing the Bible study for his baptising. A man who was dying of alcoholism became a new man. I and the church members are very happy to see this and glorified God. ...
Missionary Kyung Sun Chung and I went to the home of brother Gregory, who was hospitalized with full body burns, and after being treated and released from the hospital, we prayed fervently for him. His whole body was burned, and it was very hard to see. His fever was rising every day and it was a serious situation, but the whole church prayed fervently, and now the burned skin is slowly recovering. He is no longer running a fever. Praise God for helping this brother. ... We pray that his wife, Olesa, who nurses him by his side, may be able to do so with love and patience.
Our church started a free meal ministry to the poor in May. We work with a local charity foundation to get permission and distribute soup, bread, tea, etc to those who have nothing to eat every Friday. Before distributing the food, we sing songs, give a short sermon, and pray before distributing the food. I explained the meaning of our ministry to the congregation, telling them that we are not just giving them bread, but we are giving them the love of Jesus. I also told them that we are not just giving them bread, but we are giving them the gospel of Christ. Through this service that our church does we pray that the love of Jesus will be shared with them and that their lives will be transformed.
Pastor Aleksandr, pastor Sergey, brother Kostya, brother Alexei, and sister Park, an international student, are joyfully participating in this ministry. They, too, are poor, but with joy they lift and carry the heavy soup pots and distribute the soup with love to each person. This is how they are nourished by the love of Christ. Charity ministry is a work of growth and grace for both the recipient and the giver to grow and receive grace.
