청와대는 14일 이재명 대통령이 ‘분권형 대통령제’ 개헌 추진과 관련해 찬성 의사를 밝혔다는 국민의힘 의원 주장과 관련해 “제왕적 대통령제의 한계를 4년 중임제로 보완하겠다는 것”이라며 “내각제를 말하는 것은 아니다”라고 했다.

청와대 관계자는 이날 춘추관 브리핑에서 “(이 대통령이) 분권형 대통령제 등을 특정해 지칭한 것이 아니다”라며 이같이 밝혔다. 앞서 김태호 국민의힘 의원은 이 대통령이 최근 국민의힘 다선 의원들과 잇따라 골프 라운딩을 하며 ‘분권형 권력 구조 개헌’ 제안에 대해 “내 임기를 단축해서라도 개헌을 해야 한다고 생각한다”고 말했다고 밝힌 바 있다.

이 청와대 관계자는 “(이 대통령이) 제왕적 대통령제의 문제성에 대해 공감을 하고 있다”며 “이에 국회 권한이 강화된 4년 중임 대통령제가 국민적 수용성이 가장 높다고 생각한다”고 했다. 이 대통령은 대선 직전인 작년 5월 대통령 4년 중임제를 포함한 개헌안을 공약으로 발표한 바 있다.
