'She's still my wife,' says Jordanian married to Frank Lampard's WAG

  The 'secret' former husband of the woman England footballer Frank Lampard is set to marry spoke out last night and said: "She is still my wife."

  Nael Asad Y Abu-Rmaileh, whom super-WAG Elen Rives divorced in 2002, said: "Under Sharia law only the man can divorce the woman - and I have never divorced her."

  By the time the decree absolute was issued, Elen was already five months into an affair with Chelsea star Lampard, one of the highest-paid footballers in the world.

  This summer her status as one of the key WAGs - wives and girlfriends of the England stars - was confirmed as she danced on the tables of bars in the genteel spa-town of Baden Baden during the World Cup.

  But for Nael, 33, life is less of a party as he struggles to make ends meet - and forget the woman he loved and lost to the glamorous world in which she now mixes.

  Speaking exclusively to The Mail on Sunday, he recalled his last conversation with Elen four years ago, when she told him she was in love with another man and he begged her to give their marriage a chance.

  "She phoned me to say, 'I have met another man and he told me he loves me'," he said. It was the first time the pair had spoken in more than a year.

  Then, Elen had told Nael he was holding her back and tearfully handed him divorce papers. This time he knew it was over.

Nael and Elen met in 1997 when the Spanish beauty left her homeland for the United Arab Emirates, drawn by the glamour of a playground of the super-rich.

At the age of 20 she ended up in the oil-rich state of Abu Dhabi, working as a waitress in the Pomodoro nightclub of the Forte Grand Hotel.

Nael was the club manager. At 23, he cut a far more impressive figure than the unemployed man of today. Then, he worked the room with confidence and Elen was one of four good-looking girls employed as waitresses under his charge.

  Within a year of her return to Abu Dhabi, where she found work as a receptionist, Nael had proposed. Remarkably, Elen converted to Islam to make their marriage possible. The secretive ceremony that must have seemed excitingly impulsive at the time is strangely cold in the retelling.
