하나님이 가라사대 하늘의 궁창에 광명이 있어 주야를 나뉘게 하라 또 그 광명으로 하여 징조와 사시와 일자와 연한이 이루라 또 그 광명이 하늘의 궁창에 있어 땅에 비취라 하시고 （그대로 되니라）하나님이 두 큰 광명을 만드사 큰 광명으로 낮을 주관하게 하시고 작은 광명으로 밤을 주관하게 하시며 또 별들을 만드시고 하나님이 그것들을 하늘의 궁창에 두어 땅에 비취게 하시며 주야를 주관하게 하시며 빛과 어두움을 나뉘게 하시니라 하나님의 보시기에 좋았더라 저녁이 되며 아침이 되니 이는 네째 날이니라 창세기 1:14-19

Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so. God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.

오늘은 성경공부 두 번째 시간입니다. 오늘 제목은 ‘일주일의 탄생’입니다. 하나님께서는 창조의 네 번째 날 하늘의 광명들을 만들었습니다. 해와 달과 별들을 만드시고 그것들로 일자와 사시와 연한을 이루게 하셨습니다. 하나님께서 지으신 세상의 모든 것들은 각자의 주기를 가지고 반복됩니다. 실상 여기에 해당되지 않는 것을 찾아보기는 쉽지 않습니다.

이는 단순히 하루나 한 달, 그리고 일 년처럼 정해진 시간에 반복되는 것뿐 아니라 인생의 행불행이나 사조의 흐름 역시 다 각자 나름의 주기를 두고 부침을 반복하고 있습니다. 밤이 깊으면 새벽이 가까운 줄을 아는 것처럼 이런 주기의 반복을 세상의 원리로 받아들인다면 아무리 어려운 형편 속에서도 희망을 잃지 않을 수 있을 것입니다.

그런데 여기 한 가지 다른 주기가 있습니다. 그것은 일 주일입니다. 하루가 지구의 자전 때문에 생기고 한 달은 달의 자전 혹은 공전, 그리고 일 년은 지구의 태양 공전 때문인 것을 알고 있습니다. 하지만 일 주일이라는 기간은 우리의 삶에 아주 직접적인 구속을 주면서도 어느 자연현상에 연관된 것이 아니라는 점입니다. 우리가 주일 혹은 안식일을 지키는 것은 하나님께서 6일간 천지를 창조하시고 제 7일에 안식하신 것으로부터 생겨난 것입니다.

그런데 주일 뿐 아니라 이 일 주일 자체가 바로 하나님께서 7일간 천지 창조를 마치셨다는 사실로부터 생겨난 것은 분명 주목해 보아야 할 것입니다. 모든 일자와 사시, 그리고 연한은 창조의 넷째 날 창조하신 하늘의 광명들로 인해 생겨난 것입니다. 즉 세상을 움직이는 모든 주기적 현상은 하나님의 창조의 한 원리란 말입니다. 그런데 일 주일은 창조의 한 부분이 아니라 하나님의 전 창조 기간 자체로서 설정된 것으로 여기에는 분명 하나님께서 주시는 메시지가 담겨 있을 것입니다.

우리의 삶은 반복되는 주기 안에서 살아가게 되어 있습니다. 그것이 세상입니다. 큰 흐름도 있고 작은 것도 있지만 그것들로 우리의 삶과 세상이 구성되고 움직이고 있음은 자명한 사실입니다. 그리고 거기에 한 가운데 일 주일이라는 주기가 담겨 함께 움직입니다. 이 일 주일이 지속적으로 우리에게 말하고 있는 것은 그것이 하나님의 창조 섭리로부터 설정되었다는 것입니다.

이는 우리가 살고 있는 모든 세상의 흐름이 결국 하나님의 창조와 섭리 안에 담겨 있고 또 하나님의 섭리의 손길 역시 세상의 흐름 안에 들어와 우리 삶에 적용되고 있다는 것을 말하는 것입니다. 우리의 세상은 창조된 원리와 또 하나님의 주권적 섭리가 함께 작동하며 구성되고 있습니다.

하지만 일 주일의 시작이 되는 하나님의 창조는 반복적 사건이 아니라 시작에서부터 마침까지의 일련의 과정으로 진행되고 결국 완성을 이루신 것을 알 수 있습니다. 그러나 우리의 일 주일은 말 그대로 매주 반복되고 있습니다. 이는 끊임없이 우리에게 주시는 메시지인데 하나님의 창조섭리는 결국 완성을 이루신다는 것입니다. 그런데 이 창조의 과정이 단번에 이루신 것이 아니라 서로 연관되어 있는 일련의 과정들로 구성되어 있다는 사실은 무슨 의미일까요?

계획되고 체계적으로 구성된 창조의 과정은 이후 역사를 통해 진행되는 하나님의 섭리가 어떻게 완성되어질 지를 보여주고 있습니다. 즉 창조의 한 주간의 기록은 전 성경의 역사를 통해 완성되는 하나님의 구속의 과정을 보여주는 청사진입니다. 그러므로 우리가 매주 반복되는 한 주간과 주일을 지낼 때, 온 역사와 우리의 삶의 모든 과정을 통하여 하나님의 구속이 완성되어 갈 것이라는 선언이 담겨 있음을 기억해야 할 것입니다.

Today marks the second occasion to delve into the study of the Bible. The subject for today is "The Birth of a Week." On the fourth day of creation, God fashioned the celestial lights – the sun, the moon, and the stars. He arranged them in a precise manner, creating straight lines, right angles, and gentle curves. Everything in this world, crafted by God, adheres to its own cycles. In fact, it's challenging to identify anything exempt from this pattern.

This repetition isn't confined solely to fixed intervals like days, months, and years. Even the vicissitudes of life, both good and bad, follow their own ebbs and flows within this grand cycle. Embracing this cyclical principle as the bedrock of our world outlook allows us to hold onto hope during the most trying of circumstances. Just as we know that dawn breaks after the darkest of nights, recognizing the inherent rhythm of life's ups and downs provides solace.

Yet, there exists another cycle – the week. While a day is tied to the Earth's rotation, a month to the moon's movement, and a year to the Earth's orbit around the sun, a week imposes a more direct structure on our lives. Our observance of Sunday or the Sabbath traces its origins back to God's creation of the heavens and the Earth in six days, followed by His day of rest on the seventh.

However, it's worth noting that the week itself also arises from God's completion of His work in seven days. All dates, seasons, and years are governed by the celestial bodies created on the fourth day of creation. In essence, every recurring phenomenon shaping our world is a testament to God's design. Nevertheless, the week isn't just a part of creation; it symbolizes a period stemming from God's original creation and carries a message from Him.

Our lives are meant to be lived in cycles, an integral part of the world's natural order. The world is governed by both major and minor currents, and it's evident that our lives align with these forces. Within this grand scheme, there exists a weekly cycle that moves in unison. This weekly rhythm continuously reminds us that it was established through God's providence in creation.

This underscores that the world's currents, within which we reside, ultimately find their source in God's creation and providence. The hand of God's providence is actively at work in the world's flow and extends to our lives. Our world is shaped by God's created principles and His sovereign providence.

However, we observe that God's creation, which initiates the week, is not a one-time event but a series of interconnected processes culminating in completion. In contrast, our week faithfully repeats itself week after week. This repetition conveys a consistent message: God's creative work progresses toward fulfillment through an ongoing series of interrelated steps.

The planned and systematic process of creation illustrates how God's providence throughout history will ultimately reach its fruition. In essence, the week-long account of creation serves as a blueprint, outlining the trajectory of God's providence spanning the entire history of the Bible. Thus, we must bear in mind that as we navigate week after week, it contains a declaration that God's providential plan will unfold through history and throughout all the stages of our lives.
