다빈이 학교에서 보내온 뉴스레터에 실린 글인데

나름대로 읽느 재미가 있더라구요.

The Cookie Thief - A Matter of Perspective..
A woman was waiting at the airport one night,
With several long hours before her flight.
She hunted for a book in the airport shop,
Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop.
She was engrossed in her book, but happened to see,
That the man beside her, as bold as could be,
Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag between,
Which she tried to ignore, to avoid a scene.
She read, munched cookies, and watched the clock,
As the gutsy “cookie thief” diminished her stock.
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by,
Thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I’d blackened his eye!”
With each cookie she took, he took one too.
When only one was left, she wondered what he’d do.
With a smile on his face and a nervous laugh,
He took the last cookie and broke it in half.
He offered her half, as he ate the other.
She snatched it from him and thought, “Oh brother,
This guy has some nerve, and he’s also rude,
Why, he didn’t even show any gratitude!”
She had never known when she had been so galled,
And sighed with relief when her flight was called.
She gathered her belongings and headed for the gate,
Refusing to look back at the “thieving ingrate.”
She boarded the plane and sank in her seat,
Then sought her book, which was almost complete.
As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise.
There was her bag of cookies in front of her eyes!
“If mine are here,” she moaned with despair,
“Then the others were his and he tried to share!”
Too late to apologize, she realized with grief,
That she was the rude one…the ingrate…the thief!

오해란 바로 이런 거군요.
내가 한국에서 오리온 과자를 먹다가 불순물이 나왔어요.
회사에 전화를 걸어서 호통을 쳤더니 당장에 회사에서 과자상자를 가지고 와서 사과를 하고 가더군요.
나중에 보니까 제 이빨에 아말검 한 것이 떨어진 것이더군요.
미안 했지만 어쩌겄습니까?
과자를 맛있게 먹어 주는 것으로 사과를 대신했지요.

ㅋㅋㅋ 완전히 주객이 전도된 상태였네요 ...옆 남자분은 천사시넹....^^

저라면 남은 과자 한조각까지 반으로 나눠서 주지는 못했을 것 같은데..
참, 도인이 따로 없군요...

제가 어렸을 때 리더스 다이제스트에서 이걸 읽었지요. 그때는 재밌는 이야기라고 생각했는데 지금은 정죄라는 것에 대해 생각하게 만드네요.
도둑이고 불손하며 고맙다는 말을 할 줄 모른다는 판단을 말 한 마디 안 나눠 보고 재빨리 내리잖아요.
그런 빠른 비판과 정죄는 다시 고스란히 자기에게 돌아오게 되는 것 같습니다.
판단 유보가 미덕일 때가 많은 듯 합니다. 특히 온라인에서는.

저도 단문 독해하면서 읽었었는데 그 때는 그저 반전의 묘미에 유머처럼 웃어넘겼지만 아드리안님의 멋진 정리를 보면서 감동이 새롭습니다. 살면 살 수록 내 감각을 믿지 못하겠다는 생각이 많이 듭니다. 그래서 내가 옳다고 우기는 버릇은 많이 줄은 듯 하지만 그래도 한 번씩 ...

그건 그렇고, 정리한 내용은, 생각할 거리로 참 좋다. 난 그저 유머로 읽었었는데...
