바오로 사도는 이렇게 아름다운 사랑의 찬가를 노래합니다.
“내가 인간의 여러 언어와 천사의 언어로 말한다 하여도, 나에게 사랑이 없으면, 나는 요란한 징이나 소란한 꽹과리에 지나지 않습니다. 내가 예언하는 능력이 있고, 모든 신비와 모든 지식을 깨닫고, 산을 옮길 수 있는 큰 믿음이 있다 하여도, 나에게 사랑이 없으면 나는 아무것도 아닙니다. 내가 모든 재산을 나누어 주고, 내 몸까지 자랑스레 넘겨준다 하여도, 나에게 사랑이 없으면 나에게는 아무 소용이 없습니다.
사랑은 참고 기다립니다. 사랑은 친절합니다. 사랑은 시기하지 않고, 뽐내지 않으며, 교만하지 않습니다. 사랑은 무례하지 않고, 자기 이익을 추구하지 않으며, 성을 내지 않고, 앙심을 품지 않습니다. 사랑은 불의에 기뻐하지 않고, 진실을 두고 함께 기뻐합니다. 사랑은 모든 것을 덮어 주고, 모든 것을 믿으며, 모든 것을 바라고, 모든 것을 견디어 냅니다.
사랑은 언제까지나 스러지지 않습니다. 예언도 없어지고, 신령한 언어도 그치고, 지식도 없어집니다. 우리는 부분적으로 알고, 부분적으로 예언합니다. 그러나 온전한 것이 오면 부분적인 것은 없어집니다. …….
그러므로 이제 믿음과 희망과 사랑, 이 세 가지는 계속됩니다. 그 가운데에서 으뜸은 사랑입니다”(1코린 13,1-13).

주님께서는 모세를 통하여 형제자매가 평등하게 살아갈 세상을 이룩하는 길을 제시하십니다. 인간 삶에서 사랑과 정의를 실천하는 것이 바로 그 길입니다. 그리고 그 길은 결코 어려운 길이 아니라, 우리와 아주 가까이 있다고 하십니다(제1독서). 바오로 사도는 그리스도께서 보이지 않는 하느님의 모상이시며, 피조물의 맏이시고, 만물이 그분 안에서 창조되었다고 말합니다. 뿐만 아니라, 우주의 평화는 십자가에서 흘리신 그리스도의 피를 통하여 이루어졌으며, 그분만이 우리를 하느님과 화해시키실 수 있는 분이시라고 소개합니다(제2독서). 율법 교사의 질문에, 주님께서는 사랑의 올바른 정신을 가르치십니다. 그러자 또 율법 교사는 자기가 정당함을 드러내고 싶어서, “누가 저의 이웃입니까?” 하고 묻습니다. 예수님께서는 착한 사마리아인의 비유를 드시면서, 사랑의 실천은 종족, 인종, 종교, 국가, 사회 계급이 필요한 것이 아니라, 사람이면 누구나 마땅히 행해야 한다고 가르치십니다(복음).

오늘은 연중 제15주일입니다. 예수님께서는 착한 사마리아인의 비유로 사랑을 설명하시면서, 누가 강도를 만난 사람에게 이웃이 되어 주었다고 생각하느냐고 물으십니다. 하느님을 사랑하는 사람이 이웃을 사랑하고, 이웃을 사랑하는 사람이 하느님의 뜻을 실천할 수 있습니다. 우리는 얼마만큼 이웃에게 주님의 사랑을 실천하면서 살아가는지 생각하면서 미사를 정성껏 봉헌합시다.

Moses said to the people: "If only you would heed the voice of the LORD, your God, and keep his commandments and statutes that are written in this book of the law, when you return to the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul.
"For this command that I enjoin on you today is not too mysterious and remote for you. It is not up in the sky, that you should say, 'Who will go up in the sky to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?' Nor is it across the sea, that you should say, 'Who will cross the sea to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?' No, it is something very near to you, already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to carry it out."
R. (cf. 33) Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live. I pray to you, O LORD, for the time of your favor, O God! In your great kindness answer me with your constant help. Answer me, O LORD, for bounteous is your kindness: in your great mercy turn toward me. R. Turn to the Lord in your need, and you will live. Christ Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he himself might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things for him, making peace by the blood of his cross through him, whether those on earth or those in heaven.
There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?" He said in reply, You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." He replied to him, "You have answered correctly; do this and you will live."
But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, 'Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.' Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers' victim?" He answered, "The one who treated him with mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
