특징 - 밤에 꽃을 피우다 해가 뜨면 꽃잎을 닫는다

- Flowers bloom at night and emit a strong, stinky odor which attracts bats.
꽃은 밤에 피며 강한 냄새를 내뿜어 박쥐를 유인한다. 
- The tree is a night-bloomer and flowers are adapted to natural pollination by bats .
꽃은 밤에 피는 식물이며 박쥐로 부터 수분(受粉)한다.

-The long, podded fruits hang down from bear branches, looking like dangling sickles or swords in the night.
종종 밤에 무거운 긴꼬투리(long, podded)를 매달고 지탱하고 있는 가지는 낫이나 칼을 들고 있는 것처럼 보인다.

전통의학
- The Oroxylum indicum seed is used in the traditional Indian ayurvedic medicine.
인도 전통 아유르베다 의술(ayurvedic medicine식이 요법・약재 사용・호흡 요법을 조합한 힌두 전통 의술)은 종자를 사용하고 있으며

The root bark is also used, administered as astringent, bitter tonic, stomachic and anodyne.
뿌리와 껍질은  아스트린젠트(수렴성/Astringent), 강장 (Bitter Tonic), 건위제(stomachic) 및 진통제(anodyne)로 이용된다.

- The bark of O.indicum (Chinese : 木蝴蝶树皮, hanyu pinyin : mù húdié shùpí) or Cortex Oroxyli is a traditional Chinese medicine ingredient.
O.인디쿰(indicum)의 껍질은 목호접수피(木蝴蝶树皮) 또는  Cortex Oroxyli (木胡蝶,Semen Oroxyli) 로 중국 전통의학에 쓰인다.

- The bark of O.indicum (Singhala / Sri Lanka: Totila, Totilla) is one of main ingredients in Sri Lankan indigenous medicine (in decoctions) as a remedy for pains in joints or rheumatism .

O.인디쿰(indicum)의 껍질은 싱할라 (Singhala) , 스리랑카 (Sri Lanka)에서는 추출액(탕액,차)의 주재료(main ingredients)로 관절통증과 류마티즘을 치료하는 데 사용되었다.

성분

The leaf contains chrysin and baicalein. Tetuin, the 6-glucoside of baicalein, is reported in the seeds. Other flavonoids, known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy effects, are also present, though it may need to be used in high doses to get a response. Oroxindin has also been isolated from Oroxylum indicum whereas oroxylin A is reported in the root bark

아열대성 기후에서 자생하는 나무입니다. 한국에서 재배하는 것은 저도 아직 못 보았는데 이 자료도 외국자료 퍼왔으니까요!

오래전에 이 나무의 열매를 실제로 본 적이 있는데
그 형태가 마치 작은 배처럼 생겼더군요.
종자는 흰 털이 달린 시과라서 불면 바로 날아가곤 하였습니다.
