“…For this reason keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God’s people.” (Ephesians 6:18b GNT)
When you are prompted in your heart to pray for someone, don’t put it
off; don’t fall asleep; don’t let yourself get distracted by the
devil. You never know what that person might be going through or how
timely it is for you to call on the Lord for them at the very moment () you
feel led to do so.
* put off ; to delay doing something
The person may not know they’re in trouble; or if
they do, they may be so discouraged or far away from God
that they’re
unable to pray. In fact, a lot of people /needing God’s help aren’t
praying, so God is stirring others to pray.
How amazing it is to
realize that we can pray /wherever we are now, and something can happen
on the other side of the world as a result!
That’s the power of
intercessory prayer.
We ourselves need to be on the receiving end of such prayer as well.
While the Lord is able to place us on someone’s heart at this very
moment, the Bible also encourages us to ask for prayer.
The great
apostle Paul had the humility and faith to ask the church in Ephesus to
pray that God might give him the words and the boldness to speak /when he
opened his mouth to share the gospel (see Ephesians 6:19).
He believed
in the power of prayer to accomplish the purposes of God.
The truth is
that it doesn’t matter whether we are a layperson or a pastor; whether
it’s a matter of a personal need or a desire to be more effective in the
work of the Lord.
The bottom line is that we all need prayer.
So, today, whether you feel prompted in your heart to pray for someone,
or you need to ask someone to pray for you, be encouraged to do so,
even at this very moment! Who knows what God has in store if we just
believe!
Read Ephesians 6:18-24.
