From Korea to Samoa to Hawai
김사빈 자전적 에세이집 『이민 풍광기』 영문판 (전자책) / 한국문학방송 刊
We landed at the Honolulu International Airport 42 years ago, carrying a bunch of bags typical of immigrants, but it only feels like yesterday. During this time I lost my mother and husband who used to say he loved me almost daily. As for my children, well, they are all over the place — Texas, New Jersey, Maryland. This explains why the story of my family is being forgotten. This in turn explains why I want to put together my recollections in the form of a book for the sake of my children and their children.
One always yearns for the days gone by. Events of the past are akin to mirror images. Past images are a reflection of what we are today, though, so I wish the foot steps we leave behind will serve my offspring as a mirror of their future when they can hopefully build a more beautiful world.
I dedicate this memoir to my late husband who most dearly loved his family, saying I am truly happy.
