𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 𝐀 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬

Our inaugural Digital Literacy Day transformed the classes into a buzzing hub of critical thinking and collaboration, as students from Years 5 through 10 stepped away from passive screen time and into the role of active digital citizens. For our Primary students in Years 5 and 6, the day began with an empowering rotation through hands-on activity stations. In the 'Password Power Lab,' they discovered the art of crafting unbreakable passphrases, learning that a simple pet’s name is no match for a robust string of characters. Moving to the 'Fake or Real? Media Smart Challenge,' these young detectives sharpened their eyes, scrutinizing headlines and images to separate fact from fiction, while the 'Think Before You Share' station fostered deep discussions on digital empathy and the lasting impact of our online footprints. Watching these students collaborate and solve puzzles within their year groups shows their growing awareness that navigating the internet requires just as much savvy as using it for games or research.

As the morning progressed, the energy and complexity escalated for our Secondary students in Years 7 through 10, who tackled the more advanced challenges waiting for them. Rotating within their groups, they stepped into the shoes of cybersecurity experts at the 'Emoji Code Encryption' station, where they used symbols to encode and decode messages, understanding the fundamentals of how data is protected. However, the highlight of their journey was undoubtedly the 'Deepfake Detectives' station, a crucial exercise in an age where seeing is no longer believing. Here, students analysed clips with a forensic eye, learning to spot subtle glitches and inconsistencies that betray AI-manipulated content. In a world where society is still grappling with the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence, our Secondary students proved that they are ready to lead the charge, asking questions and demonstrating that the best defence against digital deception is a well-informed, skeptical and curious mind.

'가짜 또는 진짜? 미디어 스마트 챌린지'로 넘어간 이 젊은 형사들은 눈을 날카롭게 뜨고 헤드라인과 이미지를 자세히 살펴 허구와 사실을 구분했고, '공유하기 전에 생각하기' 스테이션은 디지털 공감과 온라인 발자국의 지속적인 영향에 대한 깊은 토론을 촉진했습니다. 이 학생들이 학년 그룹 내에서 협업하고 퍼즐을 푸는 모습을 보면 인터넷을 탐색하는 데 게임이나 연구에 사용하는 것만큼이나 현명한 지식이 필요하다는 인식이 커지고 있음을 알 수 있습니다.

아침이 되자 7학년부터 10학년까지의 중등학생들은 자신을 기다리고 있는 더 발전된 과제에 도전했습니다. 그들은 그룹 내에서 순환하며 '에모지 코드 암호화' 스테이션에서 사이버 보안 전문가의 입장이 되어 기호를 사용하여 메시지를 인코딩하고 해독하며 데이터가 보호되는 원리를 이해했습니다. 그러나 그들의 여정에서 하이라이트는 의심할 여지 없이 '딥페이크 탐정' 스테이션이었으며, 이는 더 이상 보는 것이 믿지 않는 시대에 중요한 훈련이었습니다. 여기서 학생들은 법의학적 눈으로 클립을 분석하여 AI가 조작한 콘텐츠를 배신하는 미묘한 결함과 불일치를 발견하는 법을 배웠습니다. 사회가 여전히 인공지능의 급속한 진화와 씨름하고 있는 세상에서, 우리 중등학생들은 자신들이 주도할 준비가 되어 있음을 증명하고 질문을 던지며 디지털 속임수에 대한 최선의 방어책이 잘 알고 회의적이며 호기심 많은 마음이라는 것을 보여주었습니다.
