십자가 상의 일곱 말씀 5. 내가 목마르다. Seven Sentences on the Cross 5. I Am Thirsty.

이 후에 예수께서 모든 일이 이미 이룬 줄 아시고 성경으로 응하게 하려하사 가라사대 내가 목마르다 하시니 요한복음 19:28

After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, "I am thirsty." John 19:28

이제는 주께서 십자가상에서 하신 말씀을 생각할 때 ‘우리를 위하여 어떤 힌트를 담아 두셨을까?’를 생각해 보게 됩니다. 물론 오늘 말씀, “내가 목마르다.”에도 예외 없이 그리 하셨습니다. 그것은 “성경을 응하게 하려고”라는 표현입니다. 어떤 이들은 이 구절을 두고 이는 주께서 십자가상에서 느끼는 육체의 극심한 고통을 표현하셨다고 설교합니다. 그러나 주께서 이 말씀을 하신 것은 “성경을 응하게 하려고”라고 분명히 말씀하셨습니다.

그러나 이 말이 주께서는 오직 성경을 응하게 하시려 하심이고 정작 당시의 갈증과 절박하심은 무시 되어도 된다는 것은 결코 아닙니다. 주님의 고통과 절박함은 감당하기 어려운 것이었습니다. 그러나 그 순간의 기록에도 주께서는 우리를 기억하시기에 이를 두고 ‘성경을 응하게 하려고’라는 표현을 잊지 않으셨습니다. 물론 여기에는 이 글을 기록한 사도 요한의 깨달음도 포함되어 있는 것도 사실입니다.

주님의 이 말씀은 바로 다음에 병정들이 신포도주를 주님께 마시게 하시는 것과 주께서 이를 받아 드시는 상황과 연결됩니다. 이도 또한 오늘의 말씀, 즉 “내가 목마르다.”라고 하신 의미를 우리에게 알게 합니다. 단지 육체적 극한 상황에서 갈증을 호소하고 이에 신포도주를 드셨다면 그 고난이 심하다는 것을 알게 하시는 것 외에 성경을 응하는 것은 없어 보입니다. 그러므로 주님의 고난 너머에 그 담긴 의미를 생각해 보는 것은 마땅하다고 봅니다.

이 신포도주는 오래 되어 거의 상한 포도주를 말합니다. 그리고 주께서 이를 받아 드셨다는 것은 상한 심령을 받으셨다는 의미입니다. 주님의 갈증은 주님이 이 땅에 오신 목적에 대한 갈급함인데 이는 상한 심령을 찾으시는 것입니다. 우리는 이를 사마리아 여인과의 우물 곁 대화에서 찾아 볼 수 있습니다. 어떤 이들은 주님은 단지 목마르셨을 뿐이고 사마리아 여인은 과거가 복잡한 것뿐이라 하지만 실상 주님과 여인의 대화 내용은 전혀 다릅니다.

그 대화의 주제는 생수에 관한 것이었고 주님은 그 여인의 준비됨을 알고 계셨습니다. 주님이 이 땅에 오신 것은 눈에 보이는 어떤 업적을 위한 것이 아니었습니다. 스스로 성취하셔야 했던 모든 사역의 결과는 상한 심령들이 주와 하나 되어 회복되게 하는 것이었습니다. 이를 두고 주님은 늘 갈급하셨으며 결국 이를 십자가상에서 마지막에 상한 포도주를 드시는 것으로 우리에게 알게 하신 것입니다.

오늘 나누는 이 말씀의 중요한 것은 바로 이 주님의 심정이 오늘 우리와도 함께 하신다는 것입니다. 주께서 우리와 함께 하시고 내 중심에 보좌를 두셨음은 우리 자신에게 가장 근본 된 위로가 됩니다. 사마리아 여인이 주께서 그리스도이심을 알고 고백하게 되었을 때 비로소 주님은 갈증을 해소할 수 있었습니다. 어쩌면 주님은 오늘도 우리 안에서 여전히 갈증을 호소하고 계실 지도 모릅니다. “내가 목마르다.”

마가는 이 장면에서 한 가지를 더 기록하고 있습니다. 병정들이 먼저 몰약 탄 포도주를 드렸는데 주께서는 맛을 보시고 이를 마시지 않았다 합니다. 몰약은 쓴 맛이 있어서 잠시 십자가의 고통을 잊게 합니다. 주님은 십자가의 어떤 고통도 잊지 않으셨습니다. 오늘 우리 삶에 함께 하시며 우리의 모든 고통과 고난을 나 자신으로서 겪고 계십니다. 그리고 우리가 주님을 알아 드리기까지 기다리십니다.

Now, when I think of what the LORD said on the cross, I wonder, "What hints have you got for us?" Of course, today's remark, "I am thirsty," is what he did without exception. It's the phrase "To fulfill the Bible." Some preach about this phrase that the LORD expressed the excruciating physical pain he felt on the cross. But the LORD clearly stated, "To fulfill the Bible."

However, this does not imply that the Lord only wants to fulfill the Bible, but that the thirst and desperation of that time cannot be ignored. The Lord's suffering and desperation were unbearable. However, in the record of that moment, the Lord did not forget the expression‎ "to fulfill the Bible" because he remembered us. Of course, it is also true that this includes the realization of John the Apostle who recorded this article.

The Lord's words are immediately linked to the soldiers' drinking of new wine to the Lord and the situation in which he takes it. This also makes us understand today's words, meaning, "I am thirsty." If you just complain of thirst and drink new wine in physical limitations, there seems to be no Bible to obey except to know that the hardships are severe. Therefore, I think it is appropriate to think about the meaning beyond the Lord's suffering.

This new wine is an old, almost spoiled wine. And the fact that the Lord has accepted it means that he has been spoiled. Your thirst is for the purpose of your coming to this land, which is to find a spoiled psychic spirit. We can find this in our conversation with a Samaritan woman by the well. Some say that the Lord is just thirsty and that the Samaritan woman has a complicated past, but in reality, the content of the conversation between the Lord and the woman is completely different.

The topic of the conversation was about bottled water, and the Lord knew that she was ready. The Lord's coming to this land was not for any visible achievement. The result of all the ministry you had to accomplish for yourself was to bring the spoiled spirits to recovery as one with the Lord. The Lord was always desperate about this, and he eventually learned that he was drinking spoiled wine at the end of the cross.

The important thing in this conversation today is that this very feeling of the Lord is with us today. The fact that the Lord has been with us and has an aide at my center is the most fundamental comfort to ourselves. Only when a Samaritan woman knew and confessed to Christ's love could she quench our thirst. Perhaps the Lord is still thirsting in us today. "I am thirsty."

Maga records one more thing in this scene. The soldiers first gave me myrrh-burned wine, but the Lord tasted it and didn't drink it. Myrrh has a bitter taste and makes me forget the pain of the cross for a moment. The Lord has not forgotten any pain of the cross. He is with us in our lives today and is going through all our pain and suffering as myself. And he waits for us to recognize the Lord.
