11. Ji Cheon Tae / Hexagram 11 : Tai-Peace-7.
▣ [Six in the fifth line] King Di Yi gives his younger sister in marriage.
This brings blessings and supreme good fortune.
[Explanation]
[Six in the fifth position] refers to King Di Yi marrying off his younger sister,
By doing so, he will receive blessings, and the King's affairs will be geratly auspicious.
[Commentary]
King Di yi(帝乙,제을) of the Shang Dynasty tries to form a marriage alliance
by marrying off his beloved daughter to King Wen of Zhou,
a wise and virtuous ruler [Di Yi Gui Mei - 帝乙歸妹,제을귀매].
If one acts with such a humble minds, preat blessings will bestow upon them,
making it greatly auspicious [Yi Zhi YUan Ji - 以祉元吉,이지원길].
This represemts the scene where the interchanged hexagram (互卦,호괘)
of Ji Tian Tai (地天泰,지천태) becomes Lei Ze Gui Mei (雷澤歸妹,뇌택귀매).
Here, Gui Mei (歸妹,귀매) is viewed by Wang Bi and Da San as marrying off a younger sister,
whereas Dong Po and A san saw it as marrying off young daughter.
Furthermore, Zhi(祉,지) means Fortune/ Blessing (福,복).
Even with the noble ststus of a princess, serving her husband(represented by the second line)
will bring good fortune.
Such a second line is capable because he is a wise ruler who possesses extraordinary wisdom
and art of living―embracing all things(Pao Huang - 包荒,포황), crossing rivers without boats
(Yong Bing Ha - 用溤河,용빙하), not neglecting distant matters (Bu Yi Yi - 不遐遺,불하유),
and not losing his companions (Peng Wang - 朋亡,붕망).
The reason this fortune is so greatly auspicious is that the fifth line holds the center
and can carry out the desired actions.
"[Xiang commentary says : 'Great good fortune through blessings' means that being
in the center, one can fulfill their desires - 象曰 以祉元吉 中以行願也, 상왕 이지원길 중이행원야]."
Ji Tian Tai (地天泰,지천태) shifts to Shui Tian Xu(水天需卦,수천수괘).
The King at the fifth line is gentle, harmonious with the second line,
empties his mind to listen to the voices of the people,
and does not fall into self-righteousness.
When such a King (Di Yi - 帝乙,제을) married off his daughter (Gui Mei - 歸妹,귀매),
he taught her to be solely obedient and devoted to her husband.
Generally, if the King's attitude is like this, the benevolent subjects will also step
for the country with a joyful heart, alliwing Tai(泰,태 - Peace/ Prosperity)
to be preserved for a long time.
Historically, as the imperial house of Shang acted recklessly,
it gradually lost the support of the feudal lords,
while the Zhou Dynasty rose as the strongest empire.
"Emperor Di Yi (帝乙,제을) of the Shang Dynasty used his royal status to form a marriage
alliance with Qi Zhou(岐周,기주) to secure thestability of the imperial court,
and this marriage brought good fortune and peace without war to the people."
As a reference note : Sensing signs that the times were becoming unstable,
the King went so far as to force a marriage alliance by marrying his cherished daughter
of to a subordinate, which shows that a leak/weakness had occurred in his royal power.
