Additional information about Alpenverein Worldwide Service
Insurance cover is granted provided the current membership fee is paid before an incident occurs. January of each year forms an exception: If an incident occurs in this period and if the membership fee for that calendar year has not yet been paid, insurance coverage is nonetheless granted providing payment is made afterwards and providing the membership fee for the previous year was already paid. If the membership fee is paid after 31 January, insurance coverage begins with the first minute of the day following the date on which the membership fee was paid. New members who join after 1 September of any year also count as being insured up to 1 January of the following year, although no membership fee is charged for this period.
Cheaper accommodation for members
Club members receive a discount of at least 10 € (valid after January 2013) when staying overnight in over 500 mountain huts belonging to the Austrian, German and South Tyrolian Alpine Clubs. Members also have privileges in Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Slovenia, Lichtenstein, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland!
Contract houses
Alpine Club contract houses, named "Vertragshäuser", are privately run inns and hostels, which have an agreement with the club to provide overnight accomodation for club members with between 5% and 20% price reduction, even for just one nights stay. A valid membership card must be shown. The availability of these facilities is particularly important for hikers on the long distance paths, since basic huts can often not be found in the valley and lower Alpine regions.
Reciprocal rights on mountain huts
Through an international reciprocal agreement members of the Austrian Alpine Club enjoy the same benefits as members of the local club.
Courses for mountaineers
The Climbing School and the various sections all over Austria offer members' training to the highest standards.
Weather service for mountaineers
The Alpine Club Weather Service provides up-to-date weather information for the mountaineer; on the internet (www.alpenverein.at/wetter), through a recorded telephone message and with the local weather information in our tour portal www.alpenvereinaktiv.com.
Always well-informed!
67 highest quality mountain maps mostly in the ideal scale 1:25000 are available for members at a 40% price discount. Five times a year members receive the magazine "Bergauf" at no extra cost with specialist articles and up-to-date information on mountain sports. The club's annual year book, "Berg", is available at a reduced price.
