㉠ let : 허락이나 방임 Her father wouldn’t let her go out. 그녀의 아버지는 그녀가 외출하는 것을 허락하지 않았다 = Her father wouldn’t allow her to go out.

㉡ have : 부탁 (아무에게 …) 하게 하다, (…)시키다《make보다 약한 사역을 나타냄》• Hɑve him come early. 그로 하여금 일찍 오도록 해라. Get him to come early. • I got him to prepare for our journey. 그에게 우리의 여행 준비를 시켰다

㉢make : 강요 • I’ll make him go there whether he wants to or not. 원하든 원치 않든 그를 거기에 가게 하겠다〔보내겠다〕= I’ll compel[oblige] him to go there whether he wants to or not.

사역동사 : 사역동사 + O + 원형 부정서(목적보어) to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak

환자[병자]들에게 그의 외투의 끝자락을 단지 만지기만이라도 허락해 달라고

사역(使役)동사 : O로 하여금 원형부정사 하도록 시킨다(-하게 한다)는 뜻으로 여려 종류가 있다. cause O to V = O를 시켜 V하게 한다는 의미 사역(使役) : 사람을 부리어 일을 시킴. 또는 시킴을 받아 어떤 작업을 함 역할을 시키다 使 : 하여금 사/부릴 사, 부리다 시키다 役 부릴 역 일 직무 부리다, 일을 시키다

㉮ let = --하게 하다 허락의 의미가 있음 <언어> [같은 말] 사동사(문장의 주체가 자기 스스로 행하지 않고 남에게 그 행동이나 동작을 하게 함을 나타내는 동사

㉯ make : (억지로) --- 시킨다는 의미가 있음)

* 수동 : [이익] --을 시키다 [손해] -- 을 당하다

* have는 문장에 따라 뜻이 변할 수 있는 의미를 갖고 있다.

* I employed/paid/persuadedsomeone to cleanmy car. = I hadsomeone cleanmy car.

got - to clean : *get이 have보다 더 구어적이고 의미가 강하며 영국에서 많이 쓰인다.

got - cleaned = I had my car cleaned (by someone).

: ex1)사역: I hadmy son buysome wine. = I gotmy son to buysome wine.

got - to carry : He had a porter carry his baggage

got - carried : He had his baggage carried by a porter.

ex2) He employed a barber to cut his hair.

He had a barbercuthis hair. (동사원형) = He hadhis hair cut (by a barber).

(이발은 누구나 이발사가 하는 것을 알고 있으므로 생략)

* He had cut his hair. 그가 손수 스스로 머리를 깎다라는 의미이므로 틀림

㉱ bid = (명령으로) --시키다.

㉲ help = --하는 것을 돕다. He helped me (to) go there.

3. 사역동사의 수동

㉮ He letme doit. = I was allowed(permitted) to doit by him.

I was let to doit by him. (X) let는 수동태로 사용되지 않는다.

㉯ They madeher go out. = She was made to goout (by them).

㉰ He hadhis sister washthe dishes.=He gothis sister to washthe dishes.

= He hadthe dishes washedby his sister.

= His sister was got to washthe dishes by him. (O)

* His sister was had to was the dishes by him. (X)

㉱ We bade him run fast. = He was bidden torun fast.

사역동사 : 使 [사] 부리다 시키다 役 [역] 일, 부리다, 일을 시키다

사역동사 (使役動詞)=사동사(문장의 주체가 자기 스스로 행하지 않고 남에게 그 행동이나 동작을 하게 함을 나타내는 동사). S V O to V 영어공부를 할 때 중요한 것 중의 하나는 동사의 특성을 알고 이해하는 것이다. 동사에 따라 원형부정사가 오느냐 to부정사가 오느냐가 결정된다.

a. 부정사가 있는 사역동사 = get (설득의 의미가 강함) help (돕거나 도와 시킨다는 의미가 강함) allow[허락하다] cause

b. 부정사가 없는 사역동사 : make(강요강제), let(허가), have (요청부탁)

have 《+󰃄+to do》= get《+󰃄+to do》 …시키다〔하게 하다〕(cause), …하도록 설득하다(persuade); 권하여 …하게 하다(induce)

• I got him to prepare for our journey. 그에게 우리의 여행 준비를 시켰다

• I can’t get this door to shut properly. 이 문은 잘 닫히지 않는다

let :《+󰃄+do》 …시키다, …하게 하다, …을 허락하다(allow to) = allow O to do

• He won’t let anyone enter the house. 그는 아무도 그 집에 들여보내지 않을 것이다

• She wanted to go out, but her father wouldn’t let her (go out). 그녀는 외출하려고 했으나 아버지가 허락하지 않았다

make : 《+󰃄+do》 …하게 하다 = compel[force,oblige] O to do

※⟪SYN⟫ compel, force 두 말은 거의 구별 없이 쓰이지만, compel은 ‘물리적·정신적인 압력으로 무리하게 아무에게 어떤 일을 시키는’ 경우에, force는 ‘힘으로 또는 강박적으로 …하지 않을 수 없게 하는’ 경우에 많이 쓰임: Bad weather compelled us to stay another day. 날씨가 나빠 하루 더 머물러야 했다. force a suspect to confess 용의자에게 자백시키다. oblige 필요·의무·도덕상·법률상 …하지 않을 수 없게 하다. 즉, 육체적이 아니라 정신적인 속박을 말함.

• I hɑd a new suit mɑde last month. 지난달 새 양복을 맞췄다

• When did you last hɑve your hair cut? 지난번 머리를 깎은 것이 언제입니까

• I hɑd a letter written for me. 편지 한 통을 대필해 받았다.

★ 옷을 맞추거나 이발할 때처럼 남에게 무엇을 시켜서 할 때 쓰는 표현임.

let 허용을 나타냄: Let him go. (가고 싶다고 하면) 그를 가게 하세요. make 강제를나타냄: Mɑke him work. (싫어해도) 그를 일하게 하세요. have 《미국》 권유를 나타냄: Hɑve him go. 그에게 가 달라고 하세요. get 《영국》 권유를 나타냄: Get him to go. 그에게 가 달라고 하세요. force 《문어》 강한 강제를 나타냄: Force him to come. (무리를 해서라도) 그를 오게 하세요. ⟨cf.⟩ oblige. compel 좋든 싫든 어떤 행위를 하게 하거나 어떤 상태가 되도록 하는 일.
