제목: 예수님처럼 복음을 전하자.

본문: 마태복음 9장 35~38절

35예수님께서 모든 도시와 마을에 두루 다니사 그들의 회당에서 가르치시며 천국 복음을 전파하시며 모든 병과 모든 약한 것을 고치시니라. 36무리를 보시고 불쌍히 여기시니 이는 그들이 목자 없는 양과 같이 고생하며 기진함이라. 37이에 제자들에게 이르시되 추수할 것은 많되 일꾼이 적으니 38그러므로 추수하는 주인에게 청하여 추수할 일꾼들을 보내 주소서 하라 하시니라. 아멘.

설교문:

오늘은 교회 두배 부흥전도주일입니다.

주제: 신령한 몸이 되기 위해서 몸부림치는 교회 공동체가 되시기를 기도합니다.

한국교회는 그동안 헌신적인 노력으로 큰 부흥을 이루었습니다. “어떻게 하면 많은 사람을 구원할까? 어떻게 하면 하나님을 믿고 안전하게 천국 가도록 할까? 어떻게 하면 부흥하여 하나님의 큰일을 이룰까?” 성공이라는 목표를 향해 열심히 부흥한국을 외쳤습니다. 그런데 지금 교회는 급속도로 쇠퇴의 길에 들어섰고 교회를 떠나는 사람들이 많아지고 있습니다. 이러한 부정적인 모습들은 사람중심의 수평적 교회를 세우는 방법론에 치중했기 때문입니다. 그 결과 일부 기독교인들은 기존 교회에 대한 회의감 때문에 하나님은 믿는다고 하면서도 교회에 나가지 않는 사람들이 늘어나고 있습니다. 교회에 나가서 상처받고, 하나님 신앙 잃어버리느니 차라리 인터넷 설교를 들으면서 하나님과 동행하는 삶, 영성을 지키는 삶을 살겠다는 것입니다. 그것이 절대적으로 잘 못된 것이라고 말할 수는 없겠지만 바른 신앙생활은 아닙니다. 우리는 개인 신앙의 한계를 극복하고 교회신앙으로 가야 하기 때문입니다. 주님의 몸이 되는 영광에서 분리되는 것이 불행이라는 것을 알아야 합니다. 이제는 수평적 교회에서 벗어나 하나님의 영광만을 추수하는 수직적 교회의 모습을 회복해야 합니다.

하나님은 어떤 곳보다도 교회를 사랑하십니다. 교회를 통해 교회 가족의 모든 필요를 채우시기 원하십니다. 비록 함께하기 어려운 사람이 있어도 용서와 화해를 배우고, 한 마음과 한 뜻으로 뜨겁게 모여 기도하며, 감격의 예배를 드리며, 그리스도의 몸인 교회를 돌보기를 원하십니다. 그래서 교회에 오면 하나님의 임재를 경험하게 됩니다. 그래야 감격적인 예배의 삶을 살 수 있게 되며 함께 고난을 이겨나가며 위로의 인사를 나누게 되는 것입니다. 우리는 하나님만 영광 받으시는 교회를 세워야 합니다. 그런 교회가 많지 않기 때문에 하나님이 중심되시는 수직적 교회를 세우는 일은 매우 중요한 것입니다.

오늘은 이러한 수직적 교회를 세우기 위하여 어떻게 사람들을 구원하는 일을 해야 하는지를 살펴보겠습니다. 본문에서 예수님은 전도를 하실 때 도시와 마을 단위로 전도를 하려고 다니셨습니다. 35절에 예수님께서 모든 도시와 마을에 두루 다니사, 한 도시에 들어가셔서 많은 사람들이 모인 회당과 광장, 길거리, 때로는 산과 바닷가에서 많은 회중들에게 복음을 전해 주셨습니다.

왜 주님은 도시를 돌아다니시며 복음을 전하셨습니까? 그것은 사람들이 많이 모여 사는 도시를 사랑하기 때문입니다. 예수님은 위대한 도시선교명령을 사도행전1:8절에서 말씀하셨습니다. 오직 성령님이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라 하시니라. 예루살렘, 유대, 사마리아라는 도시의 지명을 언급하시면서 복음을 전하라고 말씀하십니다. 이것은 도시에 가서 복음을 전하라는 명령이며 성령님이 그 일을 이루시도록 역사하신다는 것입니다.

사도 바울도 도시를 중심으로 복음을 전하였습니다. 특별히 찬란한 도시 문명을 꽃피운 고린도에 세운 교회는 많은 문제가 있었지만 바른 교회가 되기 위해 무엇을 주의해야 하는지를 알려주었습니다. 이 고린도 도시는 수도 아테네와 근접해 있으면서도 경제의 중심지였습니다. 그곳은 예수님이 오시기 전에 완전히 로마에 의해 폐망한 도시였습니다. 그리고 그 지리적 위치 때문에 많은 사람들이 갑자기 몰려 들어와서 생긴 새롭고 부요한 도시였습니다. 그래서 고린도인들은 생활수준에 대한 자존심이 강하고, 고린도(‘Corinth’)라는 최상의 자체 브랜드를 가진 문화에 대한 자부심도 강했습니다. 그래서 교회가 언제나 자존심 강한 세속화된 사람들이 모여 들었기 때문에 풍전등화와 같은 분위기였습니다. 그 뛰어난 사도 바울도 얼마나 힘들었으면 고린도에 보낸 서신서를 사람들이 ‘고통의 편지’라고 했겠습니까?’ 우리교회 공동체들도 이 마을(도시)에서 교회를 세우면서 교회가 무엇이 필요하며 어떤 목회적 본질을 가져야 하느냐하는 것과 씨름해야 합니다. 우리교회 공동체는 수직적 교회를 세우는 전도를 위해 무엇을 해야 합니까?

첫째, 교회 공동체가 살아가는 세상의 환경을 잘 이해해야 합니다.

우리교회 공동체는 새신자를 맞이하기 전에 전도가 되는 환경을 바르게 알고, 전도되는 환경을 만드는 것이 중요합니다. 이것은 교회의 주변 환경을 전도 되도록 하는 것입니다. 복음 전도자가 주의할 것은 ‘내 뜻만을 전하려는 일방적 태도’입니다. 이 시대를 모르면 시대의 변화를 일으킬 수 없습니다. 그러면 이 시대의 사람들은 어떤 기본적인 의식을 가지고 살아가고 있습니까?

문명의 발달로 인해 많은 사람들이 편리한 생활을 하고는 있지만 인간 본질에 대한 깊은 성찰이 사라졌습니다. 젊은이들은 자신의 정체성을 찾고 올바른 인생에 대해 생각하는 것을 흥미 없게 여깁니다. 더 나아가 신앙적 절대가치를 말하는 것을 시대에 뒤떨어진 생각이라고 말합니다. 전도자가 생각하는 절대적 구원에 관심도 없습니다.

더 나아가 인생의 방향을 결정하는 것이 자신에게 있다고 생각합니다. 이것이 이 시대를 지배하는 포스트모더니즘정신

(postmodernism)입니다. 자신의 경험과 지식과 이성을 기초로 각자의 신을 자신이 결정합니다. 지금 문명이 발달한 서구사회에서 복음을 전하는 것은 극심한 반대에 부딪히는 일이 되었습니다. 복음을 타인에게 강요하는 것은 젠틀(gentle)한 사람이 아니라고 생각하기 때문입니다. 하나님 말씀인 성경과 기독교의 유일한 구원을 말하는 것은 편협한 태도라는 것입니다. 아무리 친한 사람도 인간적인 교제는 좋으나 영적으로는 간섭하지 말라고 말합니다. 타인에게 전도한다는 것은 젠틀하지 못한 행동이라는 것입니다. 이 젠틀이라는 영적인 맹점을 이해하고 극복해야 전도가 됩니다. 젠틀해 진다는 것은 다른 사람들의 일에 사소하게 참견하지 않고 점잔하게 지켜보는 태도입니다. 다른 사람들의 삶에 함부로 점프인(jump in)해서 끼어들지 않는 것입니다. 우리 주변 사람들은 더욱 젠틀한 삶을 미덕으로 여길 것입니다. 젠틀한 것이 긍정적인 면도 있지만 전도가 어려운 환경으로 바뀐다는 부정적인 명도 있습니다. 그래서 우리교회 공동체는 주변 환경을 알아야 합니다. 사람들이 무슨 생각을 하는지를 주의해서 살펴야 합니다. 뱀같이 지혜로 와야 하는 전도인의 태도를 갖추어야 합니다(마10:16절 보라 내가 너희를 보냄이 양을 이리 가운데로 보냄과 같도다 그러므로 너희는 뱀 같이 지혜롭고 비둘기 같이 순결하라.).

1. 우리교회 주변에 어떤 사람이 사는지 알아야 합니다.

내가 사는 곳에는 어떤 사람들이 살며 무엇을 선호하는지를 알아야 합니다.

1)도시적 감각을 갖추어야 합니다.

도시 사람들은 깔끔한 것을 좋아합니다. 분명하고 다양성을 좋아하며, 질서와 안전을 선호합니다. 물론 도시적 감각이 다 좋은 것은 아니더라도, 우리교회 공동체들은 내외적으로 도시적 감각을 갖추어야 합니다.

2)극도로 문화에 민감해야 합니다.

도시교회는 다양한 문화, 다문화적인 교회 형태를 갖습니다. 다양한 문화에 대해 열려 있는 마음이 필요합니다. 다문화적 삶은 항상 어려움과 갈등이 있지만, 그 갈등적 구조를 수용할 수 있어야 합니다.

3)예술을 매우 중요하게 여겨야 합니다.

도시 사람들은 다양한 예술을 추구하며 살아가려고 합니다. 그래서 믿지 않는 사람들에게 교회의 예술적 문제점이 무엇인지를 물어보고 개선하려고 노력해야 합니다.

2. 연합(movement)을 이루어야 합니다.

세상은 결코 한 지역의 교회 공동체, 한 대형교회에 의해서 선교되는 것이 아니라 연합을 통해서 전도가 이루어지는 것입니다. 모든 교회 공동체들이 함께 사회 곳곳에서 역할을 감당해야 세상에 빛과 소금의 사명을 다할 수 있습니다. 가정과 일터에서 연합하여 그리스도인의 삶을 살아야 합니다.

1)교회 공동체는 교회에서만 아니라 일터에서도 신앙생활 할 수 있어야 합니다.

가정뿐만 아니라 직장생활은 중요합니다. 자신의 직장을 전도의 장이 되도록 최선을 다해야 합니다. 내 일터를 교회생활처럼 성경적으로 생각하고 행동해야 합니다. 세상에서도 칭찬을 듣는 사람이 되어야 전도가 되고 부흥이 일어납니다.

2)복음을 위하여 다양한 관계망을 최대한으로 넓게 확장해야 합니다.

관계를 위해 많은 시간을 들여야 합니다. 많은 사람들이 모인 도시는 시장Market Place과 같이 모든 삶의 교차점이라고 할 수 있습니다. 많은 사람들이 모이는 곳은 모든 분야의 전문가과 자원들이 모이는 곳입니다. 그래서 다른 전문 인력들이 네트워크(network)를 형성하고 갈등을 풀어 나가는데 힘을 기울여야 합니다. 성공적인 전도를 위해 외적인 환경만 아니라 교회와 성도의 내적인 태도도 매우 중요합니다. 전도가 되려면 복음의 주제로 들어가야 합니다.

둘째, 복음의 열정에 불타올라야 합니다.

사람을 사랑한다는 것은 마음으로 그들의 형편을 안타까운 마음으로 바라보고 직접적인 도움을 주는 것입니다. 예수님은 도시에 모인 모든 사람들의 형편을 돌아보시면서 안타까워하셨습니다. 36절에 무리를 보시고 불쌍히 여기시니 이는 그들이 목자 없는 양과 같이 고생하며 기진함이라. 왜 풍요로운 세상(도시)을 사는 사람들을 보시고 불쌍하다고 생각하십니까? ‘목자 없는 양과 같이 고생하며 기진함’ 때문입니다. 예수님이 이 땅에 오신 것은 세상을 사랑하시는 하나님의 마음과 같았기 때문입니다. 요한복음3:16절입니다. 하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이라. 물질로는 풍성할지 모르겠지만 영적으로는 완전히 메말라 있다는 것입니다. 우리교회 공동체는 세상 사람들을 구원하는 일을 위해 열정을 가져야 합니다. 우리교회 공동체는 세상 속에 있는 교회를 세우기 위하여 현대를 살아가는 도시민들을 이해하지 못하면 교회의 사명을 다할 수도 없고 전도도 할 수 없습니다. 이것은 전도뿐만 아니라 사업을 할 때도, 사람관계를 맺을 때도, 직장생활에서도 적용이 가능한 것입니다.

오늘 우리교회 공동체는 도시교회개척을 어떻게 할 것인지를 실제적인 부분을 나누고자 합니다. 미국 뉴욕 도시 한 복판에 세워진 리딤머처치(Redeemer P. Church)가 있습니다. 이 교회는 모든 사람들이 떠나가는 삭막한 도시에 복음을 중심으로 세워졌고 크게 부흥하였습니다. 이것은 복음으로 교회가 세워질 때 환경을 초월한다는 것을 증명한 것입니다. 담임목사님인 팀 켈러는 도시에 교회를 개척하는 것을 사명(mission for city)으로 알고 있는 사람입니다. 그리고 지난 10여 년 동안 250개 교회를 개척하며 후원하는 일을 하고 있습니다. 그리고 지금 사도행전29장을 써나가는 교회를 만들자는 Acts29Curtain의 정신적 지주역할을 하고 있습니다. 오래되어 복음이 식어버린 교회가 할 수 없는 일을 위해 교회개척이 필요합니다. 우리는 왜 새로운 교회를 개척해야 합니까? 그것은 이 세상을 부요하게 잘 사는데 도움이 되거나, 즐거움을 주거나, 편리한 삶을 위해서가 아닙니다. 오직 하나님이 기뻐하시는 교회를 세우기 위해서입니다.

우리는 왜 새로운 교회를 끊임없이 세워야 합니까? 복음을 위해서입니다. 팀 켈러 목사는 교회개척의 이유를 ‘슈링킹 파이’(shrinking pie) 비유로 설명해 주었습니다. 슈링킹 파이는 ‘쪼그라드는 파이’라는 말입니다. 파이를 만들 때 오래된 파이는 수분이 말라서 쪼그라듭니다. 교회에서 오랜 기간 동안에 믿음생활을 해온 교회 공동체들은 모든 것이 너무 익숙해져서 습관적으로 교회생활, 신앙생활을 하기 쉽습니다. 영혼구원의 열정이 식어진 교회 공동체는 복음을 말하면 다 아는 것, 지루한 것, 초보적인 것이라고 착각합니다. 그들은 복음의 열정이 식어져서 전도하며 복음을 전하는 일을 하지 않아도 신앙생활을 잘 한다고 생각하게 됩니다. 이렇게 오래 시간이 흐른 교회의 교회 공동체들은 슈링킹 파이처럼 첫 사랑이 점점 식어져서 단단한 돌멩이처럼 그 마음이 굳어지게 되는 것입니다.

반면 개척교회가 한 지역에 세워지면 어떤 일이 일어납니까? 복음의 열기가 넘치게 됩니다. 복음에 매료된 사람들이 일어나 복음을 전하고 복음이 확산되는 일이 일어납니다. 그래서 교회의 복음이 위축되는 것이 아니라 점점 더 확장되는 것입니다. 조그만 누룩이 온 빵을 부풀게 하듯이 하나님 나라가 커가는 것입니다. 그것이 교회를 개척해야하는 가장 중요한 이유입니다. 하나님 나라는 점점 커가야 합니다. 마가복음4:31~32절입니다. 31겨자씨 한 알과 같으니 땅에 심길 때에는 땅 위의 모든 씨보다 작은 것이로되 32심긴 후에는 자라서 모든 풀보다 커지며 큰 가지를 내나니 공중의 새들이 그 그늘에 깃들일 만큼 되느니라. 교회가 복음의 확장이 멈추어지면 하나님 나라가 이 땅에 이루어지지 않습니다. 교회는 복음을 세상에 드러내고 전해야 부흥하며 동시에 하나님 나라의 일을 하는 위대한 교회가 되는 것입니다. 만일 교회가 외적인 확장만 생각하고 복음에 무관심한다면 하나님 나라는 커갈 수 없습니다.

예수님은 각 도시와 마을을 다니시면서 그곳에 사는 사람들에 대한 연민의 감정, 사랑의 감정을 느끼셨습니다. 무리를 보시고 불쌍히 여기시니 이는 그들이 목자 없는 양과 같이 고생하며 기진함이라.(36절) 우리교회 공동체는 눈을 들어 분주히 돌아다니는 사람들의 고민과 고통과 아픔과 고생과 허탈과 방탕과 탈진을 보아야 하고 불쌍히 여기는 마음을 가져야 합니다. 교회는 가난한 사람, 소외된 계층, 영적 방랑자들을 찾아내어 돌보아야 합니다. 지난번에 말씀 드린 것처럼, ‘익은 사과’를 찾아야 합니다. 깨어진 가정으로 인한 씽글맘, 씽글데디가 된 사람들, 잃어버린 신용으로 길에 내 몰려진 사람들, 깨어진 사람관계로 인해 상처 받은 영혼들, 육신의 연약함으로 이 병원 저 병원 찾아다니는 환자들, 먹을 것이 제대로 먹지 못해 끼니를 걱정해야 하는 사람들, 돈 때문에 늘 불안하고 밤잠을 못 이루는 물질의 속박에 있는 사람들, 받아주는 회사가 없어서 어려운 처지에서 기회를 찾고 있는 실직자들을 예수님의 마음으로 가지고 찾아 나서야 합니다. 이것이 전도의 출발입니다.

예수님은 “천국 복음을 전파하시며 모든 병과 모든 약한 것을 고치시니라.” 천국 복음을 전파해야 모든 병과 모든 약한 것들이 고쳐지는 것입니다. 우리 교회가 해야 할 일이 이것입니다. 예수님처럼 복음에 불타는 열정을 가지려면 어떻게 해야 합니까?

셋째, 예수님을 닮는 삶을 살아야 합니다.

앞에서 말씀드린 대로 이 시대적 장벽을 넘을 방법은 우리교회 공동체에게 없습니다. 우리교회 공동체 안에 계신 예수님 그리스도를 찾아야만 그 길을 찾을 수 있습니다. 우리교회 공동체가 얼마나 예수님의 이미지를 닮느냐에 따라 전도는 되는 것입니다. 최고의 전도 법은 예수님의 전도법입니다. 죽은 사람을 살려내고 앉은뱅이를 일으키고 귀신들린 자를 쫓아내고 죄인들을 용서하고 천국복음을 전하는 일이 일어나야 합니다. 그러나 우리교회 공동체들의 전도는 부족하고 무기력합니다. 그 이유는 내 속에 예수님의 이미지가 약하기 때문입니다. 그러므로 전도에서 가장 중요한 것은 어떻게 내가 예수의 이미지를 닮느냐는 것입니다. 이것이 가장 힘든 일이고 중요한 것입니다. 예수님의 이미지를 닮기만 하면 전도는 저절로 되는 것입니다. “우리교회가 전도되는 이미지가 있는가?” 그 해답을 예수님의 모습에서 찾아야 합니다. “예수님을 닮으면, 전도는 된다.”는 믿음을 가지시기 기도합니다.

예수님은 천군천사를 불러 두려움을 주고 강압적으로 믿게 할 수도 있었습니다. 그러나 스스로 십자가를 지셨습니다. 복음만이 사람을 변화시키고, 감동시키고, 구원하는 능력이기 때문입니다. 로마서1:16절에 내가 복음을 부끄러워하지 아니하노니 이 복음은 모든 믿는 자에게 구원을 주시는 하나님의 능력이 됨이라 먼저는 유대인에게요 그리고 헬라인에게로다. 2천년이 지난 지금 진정한 승리는 십자가 복음뿐입니다. 그래서 2천년이 지난 지금도 여전히 예수님은 삶의 방황 속에 있는 사람들에게 참된 선한 목자가 되십니다. 선한 목자이신 예수님께서 본문 37~38절에서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. 37이에 제자들에게 이르시되 추수할 것은 많되 일꾼이 적으니 38그러므로 추수하는 주인에게 청하여 추수할 일꾼들을 보내 주소서 하라 하시니라. 기도하면 응답하십니다.

빌립보서1:27절에 오직 너희는 그리스도의 복음에 합당하게 생활하라 이는 내가 너희에게 가 보나 떠나 있으나 너희가 한마음으로 서서 한 뜻으로 복음의 신앙을 위하여 협력하는 것과.라고 말씀합니다. 복음에 합당하게 살아간다는 것은 예수님처럼 살아간다는 것을 의미합니다. 예수님의 이미지를 닮은 사람이 가장 전도를 잘할 수 있습니다. 내시야, 내 중심, 사람중심이 아니라 예수님의 시야, 예수님 중심으로 교회, 사람, 시대를 보아야 합니다.

전도는 사람을 낚는 것인데, 매력이 발산되어야 합니다. 전도의 매력은 예수님처럼 말하고 살 때 나타나는 힘입니다. 그 사람에게 성령의 지혜가 나타나고, 희생의 가치를 알게 되고, 용서의 사람이 되는 힘이 나타나야 합니다. 예수는 믿는데, 이기적이고, 강압적이고, 탐욕적으로 행동하면 사람들은 외식하는 사람으로 매력을 느끼는 것이 아니라 매스꺼움을 느끼는 것입니다. 그래서 예수 그리스도를 닮으려고 노력해야 합니다. 십자가를 기꺼이 짊어져야 합니다. 마태복음16:24절에 이에 예수께서 제자들에게 이르시되 누구든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따를 것이니라.고 말씀합니다. 여기서 ‘자기를 부인’한다는 말은 자신의 무엇인가를 비워야 한다는 것입니까?

다른 사람을 배려하지 않고 고집과 편견의 마음을 갖는 것입니다. 모든 것을 자기만의 관점에서 판단하는 것입니다. 자기 성향이 강한 사람, 편견을 갖는 사람은 항상 자기중심적으로 생각합니다. 다수의 생각이 항상 옳다고 생각하여 소수의 의견을 무시하는 태도입니다. 하지만 예수님은 사랑하심으로 이러한 모든 일방성으로부터 자유하신 분이셨습니다. 예수님은 자기 편견이나 대중 편견으로부터 자유하셨습니다. 그분은 언제나 진리 편에서 자유를 경험하셨습니다.
