♠ 나이가 들면 이렇게 살게나.(This is how I'm going to live when I get older.) ♠

나이가 들면 설치지 말고 미운소리, 우는소리, 헐뜯는 소리,(When you get older, don't install it, but hate, cry, speak ill of it,)

그리고 군 소리, 불평일랑 하지를 마소. 알고도 모르는 척, 모르면서도 적당히 아는척, 어수룩 하소그렇게 사는것이 평안하다오.(And don't complain, man. Pretending not to know, pretending not to know but to know in)

상대방을 꼭 이기려고 하지마소. 적당히 져 주구려. 한걸음 물러서서 양보하는 것 그것이 지혜롭게 살아가는 비결이라오.(Don't try to beat your opponent. You should lose in moderation. Taking a step back and making concessions is the secret to living wisely.)

돈, 돈 욕심을 버리시구려. 아무리 많은 돈을 가졌다해도 죽으면 가져갈 수 없는 것 많은 돈 남겨 자식들 싸움하게 만들지 말고,(Money, give up your greed for money. No matter how much money you have, if you die, you can't take it. Don't make your children fight by leaving a lot of money,)

살아있는 동안 많이 뿌려서 산더미 같은 덕을 쌓으시구려.(While you're alive, sprinkle a lot and build a mountain of virtues.)

그렇지만 그것은 겉 이야기. 정말로 돈은 놓치지 말고 죽을때까지 꼭 잡아야 하오.(But it's a cover story. Really, don't miss the money and hold it until you die.)

옛 친구를 만나거든 술 한 잔 사주고 불쌍한 사람 보면 베풀어주고,(When I meet an old friend, I buy him a drink, and when I see a poor person, I give him a drink,)

손주 보면 용돈 한푼 줄 돈 있어야 늙으막에 내 몸 돌봐주고 모두가 받들어 준다오.(If you look at your grandchild, you need a penny of pocket money to take care of your body when you are old and everyone supports you.)

우리끼리 말이지만 이것은 사실이라오. 옛날 일들일랑 모두 다 잊고잘난체 자랑일랑 하지를 마오.(We're telling you this is true. Don't forget everything about the past and brag about yourself.)

우리들의 시대는 다 지나가고 있으니 아무리 버티려고 애를 써봐도 가는 세월은 잡을 수가 없으니,(Our time is over, so no matter how hard we try to endure it, we can't catch the time,)

그대는 뜨는 해 나는 지는 해그런 마음으로 지내시구려.(You stay like that, the rising sun and the setting sun.)

나의 자녀, 나의 손자 ,그리고 이웃 누구에게든지 좋게 뵈는 마음씨 좋은 이로 살으시구려.(Live as a kind-hearted person who sees my children, my grandchildren, and anyone in the neighborhood.)

멍청하면 안되오. 아프면 안되오. 그러면 괄시를 한다오. 아무쪼록 오래 오래 살으시구려.(Don't be stupid. Don't be sick. You'll be ridiculous. You'll live a long, long life.)
