기독교연합신문 기사에대한 반박문(안수집사회 펌)

다음 기사 http://www.igoodnews.net/news/articleView.html?idxno=38885를 근거로 교회 부목사께서 카디프대학도 마치 학위를 수여한 후 논문수정보완제도가 있는 것처럼 말합니다. "학위 수여 후 수정을 허용"한다 하지 않고 그냥 "수정을 허용"한다 말하면 마치 사후 논문 수정도 허용하는 것처럼 들립니다.

이 기사는 논문 수정보완제도가 "포체스트롬대학에만 있는 것이 아니다"며 "카디프대학교 역시 표절시비에 대한 자체 기준을 두고 있다"고 쓰고 있습니다. 첫 문장을 읽으면 마치 카디프대학교도 논문 수정보완제도가 있는 것처럼 오인시킬 수 있습니다. 다음 문장은 표절시비에 대한 자체기준이 있다고 쓰고 있을 뿐입니다. 독해력이 뛰어나지 않으면 카디프대학교도 논문수정보완제도가 있는 것처럼 오해하기 십상입니다. 과연 그런 제도가 카디프대학교에 있을까요? 카디프대학교에 메일을 보내서 과연 그런 제도가 있는지 확인해보면 좋겠습니다.

Google에서 Cardiff University와 관련해 "GUIDELINES ON THE COMPLETION OF: RESEARCH DEGREE RESULT AND REPORT FORM: PhD and MD"라는 문서를 찾으면 아래와 같은 내용이 나옵니다.

1) 사소한 오류나 철자 틀린 것을 고치는 조건으로 논문 통과

2) 내용을 수정 또는 보강하는 조건으로 논문 통과

가 있습니다. 이 경우 구두발표한 날로부터 12주 이내에 수정이 이루어져야 합니다. 논문 자체의 독창성과 기여도가 탄탄함을 전제로 1)은 철자법 등 사소한 오류를, 2)는 부실한 설명, 그림/사진/그래프의 낮은 품질, 일부 자료 해석의 오류 수정을 허용합니다. 당연히 수정된 논문이 제출되어야 학위를 수여합니다. 이 규정에 따르면 논문수정은 학위를 받기 전에 이루어져야 합니다. 학위를 수여한 후 수정을 허용한다는 규정은 이 문서에 없습니다.

3) 논문의 하자가 크지만 학생이 바로잡을 능력이 충분하다고 인정될 경우 재투고

가 있지만 이것은 심사를 통과하지 못해 재심사를 전제로 재투고를 허용합니다. 재투고 논문이 만족스러울 경우 구두발표는 생략할 수 있다는 내용이 http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/regis/sfs/rdqh/procedures-for-the-conduct-of-research-degree-examination.html에 있습니다. 그렇지 않으면 재심을 위해 구두발표가 다시 이루어집니다.

오히려 http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/europ/resources/PG%20General%20Handbook%202011-12.pdf라는 자료는 학생이 표절하지 말도록 주의를 촉구하고 있습니다. 이 자료에도 재투고(re-submit) 내용이 나오지만 앞서 쓴 바와 같이 재심사를 전제로 합니다. 표절이 상당하다면 패널은 대학당국에 논문취소를 권한다는 내용이 http://cardiff.ac.uk/regis/ifs/plag/에 있습니다.

아래 내용은 세계 어디서나 볼 수 있는 거의 표준적인 절차입니다. 학위 수여 후 논문 수정을 허용한다는 규정을 찾으신 분 있나요? 제가 과문해서 그런지 학위 수여 후 수정을 허락한다는 문서를 찾지 못해 안타깝습니다. Cardiff University에 그런 문서가 있다면 알려주시기 바랍니다. 세계 각 대학의 학위제도에 관한 연구자료로 잘 활용하도록 하겠습니다. 제가 본 문서만 놓고 본다면 상기 기사가 영국의 명문 Cardiff University를 욕보이고 있지 않나 걱정됩니다. Cardiff University 동문이 계시다면 사실확인 부탁합니다.

Advice to Examining Boards on interpreting the decisions available to them for the examination of a thesis submitted for the award of PhD/MD

1. A thesis may be passed subject to the correction of minor or typographical errors prior to the work’s deposit in the libraries. Such errors might consist, for example of poor punctuation, mis-spellings, sentences which lack total clarity, badly-labelled graphs, figures or photographs, which do not detract from the view of the examiners that a sound piece of work has been presented. The errors should be corrected by the author within twelve weeks of the date of the viva. The Examining Board may stipulate that the corrections made shall be scrutinised by either/both examiner(s) prior to the award process being initiated.

2. A thesis may be passed subject to corrections and amendments. The thesis may be deemed satisfactory in substance but defective in presentation or in detail. The research design and execution are basically sound but parts of the submission need to be re-written. The defects might consist, for example, of illegible or poorly-argued passages, sub-standard figures, graphs or photographs, or misinterpretation of some data. There should be evidence that the candidate knows what he/she is doing, that the work substantially addresses the problems or issues posed but that its execution in thesis form requires modification of a scale capable of being accomplished within a period of twelve weeks. The Examining Board may stipulate that the corrections made shall be scrutinised by either/both examiner(s) prior to the award process being initiated. The corrections/amendments should be completed within twelve weeks of the date of the viva.

3. A thesis should be deemed to fail, but the candidate allowed to modify and re-submit on payment of a fee, if the research design and execution are flawed and/or the thesis itself requires substantial re-working either on intellectual or presentational grounds, provided that the examiners can see evidence that the candidate is capable of the modifications required (which may take months, as opposed to weeks, of concentrated work – up to a maximum of a year).

4. <!--[endif]-->A thesis may be deemed on the grounds of scope, approach, execution, orginality etc to fail to meet the standard required for the award of PhD/MD, but to merit the award of MPhil subject to the correction of minor or typographical errors prior to the work’s deposit in the libraries. Such errors might consist of poor punctuation, mis-spellings, sentances which lack clarity, badly-labelled graphs, figures or photographs, which do not detract from the view of the examiners that a sound piece of work has been presented. The Examining Board may stipulate that the corrections made shall be scrutinised by either/both examiner(s) prior to the award process being initiated. Corrections shall be completed within a period of twelve working weeks from the date of the viva. <!--[endif]-->

5. <!--[endif]-->A thesis should be deemed to fail to meet the standard required for the award of the degree of PhD/MD but the candidate be allowed to modify and resubmit for the degree of MPhil upon payment of a full fee, if the research, design and execution are flawed and/or the thesis itself requires substantial re-working either on intellectual or presentational grounds, provided that the examiners can see some evidence that the candidate is capable of the modifications required (which may take months, as opoosed to weeks, of concentrated work). The re-submission shall take place within a period not exceeding one year from the date of the official notification to the candidate of the outcome of the examination.

6. A thesis should be deemed to fail, with no provision for re-submission, if the research design and execution and/or the thesis itself is flawed to such a fundamental extent that there are insufficient grounds for the examiners to believe that the candidate can salvage it.

문장 하나하나 표현 하나하나에 공을 들이고 reference를 사용할때 명시를 함과 동시에 그 reference의 표현을 다르게 하기 위해 단어 하나하나에 신경을 쓰면서 논문을 쓰고 있는 사람들이 볼때 표절과 공헌이 공존하냐 마냐 그런 논쟁 자체가 우스운 것이구요. 공헌은 연구, 논문의 기본 전재 조건입니다. 공헌이 없으면 왜 논문을 씁니까. 그냥 보고서지. 수정 보완 제도라는 건 외국에서 공부한 사람으로써 들어보지 못했구요. 사랑이님 말씀처럼 학위 받고 수정하는 건 있을수도 없는 제도고 만약 있다면 코미디 소재가 될 일이 아닐까 생각이 듭니다. 박사 기간동안에 왜 그렇게 고생을 합니까.. 학위 받을때까지 논문 완성하려고
