Autun Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Lazare d'Autun) is a Roman Catholic cathedral,

and a national monument of France, in Autun.

Famous for its Cluniac inspiration and its Romanesque sculptures by Gislebertus

it is a highlight in Romanesque art in Burgundy and it is the seat of the Bishop of Autun.

The Bishop of Autun set forth the construction of St. Lazare Cathedral

as a result of the large movement of pilgrims travelling to Vezelay

as they progressed on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

 Due to social practices that involved pilgrims venerating the relics of saints in this period,

the Bishop of Autun ordered the creation of a larger cathedral to house the relics

and accommodate the influx of pilgrims into Autun.

The column capitals and main facade of the church are embellished

 with realistic sculptures carved by Gislebertus.

The artwork is a means of teaching the masses of Christian ethics

with dramatic scenes of heaven and hell.

The Gothic east end of Autun Cathedral belies

its wealth of Romanesque architecture and sculptural art to be found inside

12세기에 지은 부르고뉘의 로마네스크 양식의 전형으로 본당 내부의

아치벽기둥은 로마네스크 양식이다.

[최후의 심판]이 조각된 중앙문 합각머리는 부르기뇽 양식의 생생한 걸작으로

신비의 조각가 지르베르(Gislebert)의 작품으로 생동감 넘치는 신체 대비의 표현,

강한 부각 효과, 율동적인 선, 아름다운 곡선미의 완벽한 조화를 보여 주고 있다.

합각 머리 둘레에 월력과 황도 12궁이 조각되어 있다.

본당의 기둥머리(柱頭)조각은 로마네스크양식의 걸작이다.

제의실 위의 참사회실에 성가대석의 기둥을 장식했던 기둥머리(12세기)가 있다.

좌측 3번째 예배소에 엥그르(Ingres)의 화폭 [성자 쌩포리앙 saint Symphorien]이 있다.
