Shine City Project
Wetlands Park
December 14, 2019
On December 14, 2019, Shine City Project went to Wetlands Park! The Clark County Wetlands Park is an area covering 2,900 acres along the Las Vegas Wash, and it has an important role of filtering the water that collects from Las Vegas on the way to Lake Mead. Though the Wetlands Park is located in the Mohave Desert, it is home to over 70 species of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, and over 310 species of birds!
On this morning, our Shine City Project volunteers arrived at the Nature Center where we received some information about Wetlands Park and a few points on safety. Afterwards, we took a walk along the trail until we reached "Big Bridge". It was a cool and refreshing walk at the Wetlands Park, and it was nice seeing the peaceful landscape. At Big Bridge, we walked along the edge of the water where we eventually reached an area that was covered with litter and debris. This litter was a result of the litter that was left behind in the city, and it had traveled with the water to Wetlands Park.
To help with the cleanup, we had six volunteers representing Shine City Project! Out of our six volunteers, one was joining us for the first time! Together with Wetlands Park staff and other volunteers, we were able to clean up all the litter! In the end, it was nice seeing the ground underneath all the litter, and we were happy to help restore this area of Wetlands Park for all visitors and animals to enjoy!
