Whiteout
ㅡ To read every coner
by Im, Bom
After the low round table had disappeared, more and more corners appeared in the room. The moonlight that had caressed the contours of a square dining table rounded out softly. Whenever nights were deep, someone cried and gnashed their teeth. When crying came back, reflecting the corner of the dark, it revealed its presence more clearly. The words that had balanced on the tip of an unsettled tongue were soaked into the rice grains in the silence. Everything disappeared in an instant without bidding farewell. The swallows that used to open their yellow bills under the eaves, the earthworms that inched across the yard, and the words that knelt over the threshold disappeared. How does sorrow turn into a daily routine? Though broad daylight breeds darkness, it laughs indifferently. In the room full of a strangers’ tears, we fall asleep with our backs crouched into the corners.
