어리석은 사람은 진리의 가치를 알 수 없다

(A Fool Cannot Appreciate the Value of the Dhamma) - 법구경

A fool, even though he is associated  어리석은 사람은 평생 동안을

with a wise man all his life,                 현명한 사람과 사귀더라도

does not understand the Dhamma,   숟가락이 국 맛을

just as a spoon does not know           알지 못하듯이

the taste of soup.                                 (불법의) 진리를 이해하지 못하리.

* appreciate vt. <사람, 물건의> (가치를) 정당하게 평가하다, ～의 진가를 인정하다

  appreciation n. 올바로 평가[이해]하기 ; 감상(력), 음미

* value n. (사물 등의 상대적인) 가치, 값어치, 진가, 중요성

  valuable adj. 값비싼, 값진 ; (...에게) 귀중한, 가치 있는

  valueless 값어치 없는

  priceless 매우 귀중한

* even though 비록...일지라도, 설사 ...할지라도

* associate vt. [associate A with B] (보통 수동태 혹은 재귀 용법)

                         <A와 B를> 제휴[연합]시키다 ; <A를 B의> 친구[동료, 패거리]로 만들다 ;

여기에서도 수동태로 쓰이고 있음 : is associated with
