Professor Cho Eung-tae: “Suspend publication and teaching of ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’” — criticizes 19 points focusing on the Only-Begotten Daughter (2026-10-28)
On October 22, 2026, an article titled “Proposal for a different perspective (dissenting opinion) on the ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’” by Cho Eung-tae, Professor Emeritus at Sun Moon University, was posted on the anonymous bulletin board of “Pioneer Cafe.”
When the [Unification Church Anti-Corruption Monitoring Committee] reposted this article, a claim of copyright infringement was filed shortly thereafter.
Following the publication of the ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’ and the commencement of educational programs for pastors and members, Professor Emeritus Cho Eung-tae posted a document summarizing his concerns and suggestions for revisions in a KakaoTalk group chat. At the end of the document, he also provided his contact information for those wishing to exchange opinions with him personally.
‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’ is a doctrinal commentary published under the name of the “Compilation Committee for the Commentary on the Theory of True Parents.” Professor Emeritus Cho points out that this book is excessively biased toward the so-called “Only-Begotten Daughter Theory,” which positions President Han Hak-ja as the “Only-Begotten Daughter,” while the status and providential role of True Father (Rev. Sun Myung Moon) are treated relatively lightly.
Professor Emeritus Cho recommends: (1) suspending publication and educational use until True Mother is released; (2) reversing the order of the chapters on True Father (Chapter 7) and True Mother (Chapter 6);③ disclose the real names of the authors of each chapter rather than using the name of the “Compilation Committee,” and include a list of references; ④ reflect the fact that the Only-Begotten Daughter (the sister of John the Baptist) had already been born during the time of Jesus; and ⑤ revise the expression “Holy Mother Han” in the reporting prayer.
In addition, he presented proposed revisions numbering in the dozens per page.
This text is a personal opinion published by Professor Emeritus Cho, who disclosed his real name and contact information; it is unrelated to the position of this committee. However, since it specifically points out the points of contention surrounding the ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’ and we determined that it is worth reading for members, we have reproduced the original text below. Please note that Professor Emeritus Cho’s publicly available contact information has been omitted.

I. Basic Premises
1. The Foundation of Heavenly Parent’s Ideal of Creation and Its Failure
Heavenly Parent’s Ideal of Creation is for Adam and Eve (the First Begotten Son and the First Begotten Daughter) to hold a Holy Wedding (Blessing Ceremony), realize the Blessed Family, and subsequently for all humanity—their descendants—to build True Families (True Parents, True Couples, True Children), establish a welfare environment utilizing all things in their true form, and realize the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth and in Heaven.
Heavenly Parent’s Ideal of Creation begins with Adam and Eve—the male and female entities—becoming one couple and establishing a Blessed Family. However, due to the Fall, this Ideal of Creation collapsed. Satan came to dominate the world, and false human beings, filled with ignorance and distrust, spread across the earth.
2. The Unfolding of the Providence of Restoration to Realize Heavenly Parent’s Lost Ideal of Creation—The Appearance of the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter and the Failure
In order to find the True Son (the Begotten Son, the True Son) and the True Daughter (the Begotten Daughter, the True Daughter) among many false children, Heavenly Parent has walked the path of the providence of salvation, marked by blood, sweat, and tears.
Finally, after 4,000 years, Jesus—the Only-Begotten Son of the First Coming (the Second Begotten Son) —and the sister of John the Baptist—the Only-Begotten Daughter of the First Coming (the Second Begotten Daughter)—were born. These two were to hold a Holy Wedding and establish a Blessed family to realize the Kingdom of Heaven.
However, due to the ignorance and unbelief of Mary, the mother of Jesus; the high priest Zechariah and his wife; and John the Baptist, this providential course ended in failure. As Jesus was dying on the cross, He left behind a prophecy regarding the promise of His Second Coming and the marriage supper of the Lamb. Christians have been eagerly awaiting that day for 2,000 years.
3. The Unfolding of the Providence of Restoration to Realize the Lost Ideal of Creation of Heavenly Parent—the Victory of True Parents and the Advancing Toward the Settlement of the Cheon Il Guk
Two thousand years after the events of the Cross, Moon Yong-myung (Rev. Sun Myung Moon), the Only-Begotten Son of the Second Coming (the Third Begotten Son), and Mrs. Han Hak-ja, the Only-Begotten Daughter of the Second Coming (the Third Begotten Daughter), were born. Through their Holy Wedding (March 16, 1960, Lunar Calendar), the Wedding Feast of the Lamb was fulfilled. The two first realized the Blessed Family, and thereafter devoted their utmost efforts toward the goal of enabling all humanity to build True Families (True Parents, True Couples, True Children), establish a welfare environment utilizing all of creation, and realize the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth and in Heaven. Having overcome countless hardships that defy description, the providence is now advancing centered on True Mother.
4. The Holy Wedding Ceremony: The Starting Point and Cornerstone of the Unification Church and the Family Federation
This joyous celebration refers to the Holy Wedding Ceremony held in 1960, when True Parents—who descended as the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter without original sin—met as the Messiah Couple of the Second Coming. This was the fulfillment of the prophecy of the “Wedding Feast of the Lamb” (Revelation 19:9), which Christianity had waited for 2,000 years. It was a celebration that shook heaven and earth. From this event, new terms such as “True Family,” “True Parents,” “True Couple,” “True Children,” “Completed Testament,” and “Cheon Il Guk” were born.
Therefore, Blessed Families must reverently welcome True Parents as the Messiah Couple of the Second Coming and move forward toward the establishment of the Cheon Il Guk. This is the mission entrusted to Blessed Families today. Although there is a 23-year age difference between them, there is no superiority or inferiority between them as the Messiahs of the Second Coming.
Furthermore, through their blessings, many Blessed Families have been established, and while living in various parts of the world, they are devoting their utmost efforts to the establishment of the Cheon Il Guk. World peace and unification—the Kingdom of Heaven and the Pure Land of Bliss—which humanity has long dreamed of, will reach their climax through the establishment of the Cheon Il Guk; the Last Days will come to a close, and the Age After the Coming of Heaven will be realized.
[‘Selected Words of True Mother’, Vol. 2]
“Everyone! In 1960, Rev. Moon and I entered into a Holy Marriage as the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter prepared by Heaven. After our Holy Wedding, we had but one goal in life: to liberate Heavenly Parent—the True Parents of Heaven and Earth—and restore to them their lost position as parents; to save the ignorant and deluded humanity, who struggle within the realm of death and cannot see the truth even though their eyes are open; and to restore them back to the bosom of Heavenly Parent. For the sake of this ideal, Rev. Moon and I have overcome every kind of hardship—so severe that our bones froze and our bodies trembled—and have guided humanity, which had fallen into a situation akin to that of orphans who had lost their parents, walking the path of world salvation. His life—coming as the Only-Begotten Son of Heavenly Parent, meeting the Only-Begotten Daughter prepared over 6,000 years, and seeking to embrace all humanity with the heart of True Parents—was a journey filled with hardship, much like sailing the seas amid a violent storm. Rev. Moon’s heartfelt last will—in which, before his Seonghwa, he urged all humanity to fulfill the mission of the New Tribal Messiah—was also directed precisely toward the completion of this True Ideal.”
“We must recognize that while there have been many religious leaders throughout history who were able to communicate with the spirit world, no one knew the spirit world as well or unified it as thoroughly as Rev. Moon. That is why Rev. Moon was granted the seal from God. Otherwise, it would be impossible to unify the earth .”
[‘Sermons ot the Reverend Sun Myung Moon’, Vol. 613, p. 258]: You must not say things like, “Rev. Moon also inherited the fallen lineage.”
5. The terms “Only-Begotten Son” and “Only-Begotten Daughter” were valid only until the Holy Wedding of True Parents.
The terms “Only-Begotten Son” and “Only-Begotten Daughter” were valid only until the Holy Wedding Ceremony in 1960. From that point onward, terms such as “True Family,” “True Parents,” “True Couple,” “True Children,” “Completed Testament,” and “Cheon Il Guk” should be used more frequently and emphasized. These new terms and concepts will provide humanity with a vision for the future and will lead not only the Family Federation but also all of humanity.
If we fail to do so and instead overuse or become overly attached to the terms “Only-Begotten Son” and “Only-Begotten Daughter,” it will be as if we are regressing to the past. This could hinder our development and progress toward the future. It is a foolish act, akin to deliberately using oil lamps or torches in an age of electric lighting.
6. Two Characteristics of a Religious Community
For a religious community to grow, it must possess two characteristics. First, it must practice a management method that is even superior to a liberal democratic system, which places greater emphasis on the process than on the result. Second, it must be a community that practices love and compassion and prioritizes service, rather than a group that pursues profit.
Therefore, when making decisions on serious matters, we must exercise the utmost caution and reach a decision—and then announce it—only after undergoing open discussions such as public hearings, seminars, and debates. In this sense, we should abandon the approach of educating pastors—and subsequently attempting to educate members—as if the “Commentary on the Theory of True Parents” were already a settled matter, and instead proceed more calmly through open discussion. First, we must discuss the necessity of publication, and if necessary, set aside a period of at least one year for careful consideration to prevent errors and misunderstandings as much as possible. If we then make the announcement and conduct education, it will inspire the members and further strengthen our unity.
7. Examples from Other Religions
In Buddhism, there are the Sutras, Vinaya, Shastras, and Commentaries. The “Sutras” are the teachings of the Buddha and must never be altered. Examples include the ‘Diamond Sutra’, ‘Lotus Sutra’, ‘Avatamsaka Sutra’, and ‘Agama Sutras’, which serve as the cornerstones of Buddhism, a massive global religious organization. The “Vinaya” consists of the rules that monks and lay believers must observe. “Shastras” logically analyze the Buddha’s teachings and interpret the meaning of the doctrines in light of the circumstances of their respective eras. In modern terms, they are equivalent to academic papers or books. “Commentaries” are explanatory texts on the sutras and shastras. They elucidate the meaning of the texts, illustrate their relationship to other doctrines, and provide practical wisdom for daily life.
8. The Positioning of the ‘Divine Principle’ and Our Attitude
The ‘Divine Principle’ is a scripture proclaimed by True Father, the founder of the Unification Church and the Family Federation. It must never be altered. However, it is necessary to publish various papers, books, commentaries, and works on the principles of daily life centered on the content of the ‘Divine Principle’. This should be encouraged. Nevertheless, the content must not be distorted.
9. Now Is the Time to Focus on True Mother’s Release
Since True Mother is currently in detention, we must focus our sincere efforts and devote our energy to securing her early release. Therefore, the publication and teaching of the ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’, which risks provoking controversy, must be put on hold for the time being. Once True Mother is released and returns to Cheon Jeong Gung, we can engage in careful and repeated discussions; if it is determined that publication is necessary, it will not be too late to print it at that time. Even if it is delayed somewhat, it will likely have a greater impact on members and readers as a result. Let us once again take to heart the admonition that “eating too quickly causes indigestion.”
10. Paragraph Division and Inclusion of Foreign Languages
For the reader’s convenience, long passages should be appropriately divided into paragraphs. Furthermore, for the education of the second, third, and fourth generations, it would be advisable to include Chinese character and English as appropriate.
II. Proposals for Alternative Perspectives on Important and Sensitive Content
1. The author likely wrote this text with a sense of urgency and a personal sense of mission. However, because the analysis of the Bible, the history of Israel, world history, and Korean history is overly centered on the Only-Begotten Daughter, it contains many errors and numerous passages that require correction. The work should be either substantially revised, discarded, or its publication prohibited. To use an analogy, humans can only see objects correctly and measure distances accurately when they have both eyes. If one has only one eye, the eye cannot function normally.
The analysis of the history of salvation is no different. Heavenly Parent’s Ideal of Creation and the history of the providential salvation to restore the lost Ideal of Creation have always unfolded centered on “man and woman, the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter” forming a pair to realize the Blessed Family. In other words, the author of this book can only produce balanced content by simultaneously employing the two concepts of the “Only-Begotten Son” and the “Only-Begotten Daughter” to analyze and study the scriptures and history. However, this book is excessively biased toward the “Only-Begotten Daughter,” while descriptions of the “Only-Begotten Son” are either omitted or treated lightly. Although the author possesses outstanding intellect, he holds a one-sided perspective, akin to seeing things with only one eye.
For this reason, it is difficult to regard this book as a sound work consistent with the doctrine of the Family Federation, which places great emphasis on the family. It is an extremely dangerous book that is highly likely to encourage schism. It should be discarded immediately. If publication is absolutely necessary, it should only proceed after True Mother’s release and return to the palace, following calm and careful deliberation, substantial revisions and rewriting, and the holding of multiple public hearings.
Members who are living their lives with all their might to welcome the Messiah and his wife at the Second Coming and to fulfill the mission of the settlement of Cheon Il Guk would face judgment in the spirit world—their mouths will be burned with fire—if they make erroneous statements. If they write erroneous texts, they will suffer a terrifying divine punishment in which those very characters and words will turn into sharp shards of iron that strike the author, leaving their entire body covered in blood.
Therefore, all members—including intellectuals—must approach writing with caution and a sense of reverence. Furthermore, I request that the publication and educational activities related to this book be immediately halted. I urge the author of this manuscript to repent and extricate himself from the quagmire of distorted intellect.
2. Judging by the title ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’, this work corresponds to the “Shastra” category among the Buddhist categories of Sutra, Vinaya, Shastra, and Commentary. From the standpoint of upholding fundamental premises, diverse research on True Parents is necessary and should be encouraged.
3. On the first page, the name of the organization is listed as the “Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.” Where has the name “Heavenly Parent’s Holy Community” gone? Until now, the weekly bulletins of each church have listed the name as “Heavenly Parent’s Holy Community, Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.” What is the correct name of the organization?
4. The table of contents for this book is organized as follows.
Introduction
Chapter 1: Heavenly Parent and Creation
Chapter 2: The Fall of Humanity and the Providence of Salvation
Chapter 3: The Israelites Are the Chosen People
Chapter 4: Jesus, the Only-Begotten Son
Chapter 5: The Korean People Are the Chosen People
Chapter 6: The Only-Begotten Daughter of the First Coming—True Mother
Chapter 7: The Messiah of the Second Coming—True Father
Chapter 8: True Parents’ Providence of Salvation
Chapter 9: The Cheon Il Guk—Toward a World Where Heavenly Parent’s Dream Is Realized
Here, the order of Chapters 6 and 7 should be reversed. In other words, the content regarding True Father should be placed in Chapter 6, and the content regarding True Mother should be placed in Chapter 7. Before and after the founding of the Unification Church, True Father first endured hardships that brought him to the brink of death, and he overcame them to achieve victory. It was upon this foundation of victory that True Father founded the Unification Church and led it to become the Family Federation. Based on these historical facts, it is only natural that True Father’s life and philosophy should be described first.
If this point is overlooked, there is a high likelihood that it will plunge Blessed Families into confusion and even lead to their dispersion. After all, ideologies, theories, books, and papers must serve to unite and empower readers and members of an organization.
5. In this book, the focus is not equally divided between the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter; rather, it centers on the Only-Begotten Daughter. It follows the editorial format of ‘The Great Epic of the Chosen Korean People’. This is likely to become a source of controversy and cause division. Therefore, the author should adopt a stance of respectfully welcoming both True Parents as the Messiah Couple of the Second Coming and present their lives and philosophies fairly.
When all of us walk the proper path of faith by welcoming both True Parents, True Father, who is in the spirit world, will descend and exercise His authority even more fully. Furthermore, the miracle of True Mother’s swift return to Cheon Jeong Gung will occur. We must never exclude or treat True Father coldly. We must welcome both of them with care and swiftly bring the settlement of the Cheon Il Guk.
6. The current Family Federation should focus more on the settlement of the Cheon Il Guk and the practice of true love, rather than on metaphysical doctrinal disputes. Religious truths must be put into practice within society, recognized by citizens, and verified. Only then can they become true religion and genuine truth, serve as a light that illuminates the world as a practical religion, and fulfill the role of providing a vision. This is the path that the world’s religions have collectively followed.
7. This book corresponds to “shastra” of Buddhism which complements the content of the scripture ‘Divine Principle’ or sheds light on it from new perspectives and interpretations as works done by one or more authors. As such, it contains sensitive topics, and opinions may differ. Therefore, rather than publishing it under the name “Compilation Committee for the Commentary on the Theory of True Parents,” the specific names of the authors should be listed. This is because writing entails responsibility.
Typically, in the case of a collaborative publication by multiple authors, the table of contents lists who wrote which sections. This is known as the “real-name author system,” which allows readers to contact the author of a particular passage to ask questions or exchange opinions. Therefore, since the ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’ consists of nine chapters in total, the names of the authors of each chapter should be listed to facilitate future exchanges of opinions with readers.
In particular, this book contains sensitive topics, and various opinions have already been expressed. In such a tense situation, attempting to get by using only the name “Compilation Committee for the Commentary on the Theory of True Parents” appears to be an unreasonable attempt to avoid controversy and responsibility, and will inevitably invite criticism. Therefore, the identities of the authors should be disclosed.
For reference, in Christianity as well, many books are published with the Bible as their central focus. When two or more people contribute to a work, the names of the authors on the editorial committee are always listed, adhering to the “real-name author system.” We, too, should carry on this positive tradition.
8. Since this book is written from the perspective of a “commentary” regarding the scripture ‘Divine Principle’, a “Bibliography” should be included at the end of the volume. Only by clearly citing works such as ‘Divine Principle’, ‘Outline of Unification Thought’, ‘Sermons of the Reverend Sun Myung Moon’, and ‘Collected Speeches’ can this book be considered a work with clear foundations. This ambiguous and vague approach must be corrected.
9. In the section titled “Joint Responsibility for the Fall” on page 106, the “motivation and process of the Fall” emphasized in the ‘Divine Principle’ has been omitted, which could become a subject of controversy. There is no mention of Eve engaging in a give-and-take relationship with the Archangel Lucifer, first taking and eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil (a spiritual sexual relationship), and subsequently tempting Adam, leading to a physical sexual relationship. In other words, the causes and processes of spiritual and physical Fall are omitted, and the text offers only a vague explanation: “After the Fall, they were expelled from the Garden of Eden having completely lost their qualifications as the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter.” This is likely to invite objections that it diminishes the significance of the “Doctrine of the Human Fall”—which occupies a central position in the ‘Divine Principle’—and will leave a seed of controversy.
In Christianity, the cause of the Fall is understood to be disobedience to God’s Word—specifically, eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In contrast, the ‘Divine Principle’ clearly identifies the cause and process of the Fall as spiritual and physical sexual relations. This content was a source of pride for the early members. This book must not undermine that pride or omit the content that served as the basis for that pride.
10. The description on page 110 regarding the birth of the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter is a sensitive topic and has the potential to spark controversy.
“If, at some point in the history of the providence of salvation, only the Only-Begotten Son were born and the Only-Begotten Daughter could not be born—resulting in the failure to realize the ideal of True Parents—then, even if the birth of the Only-Begotten Daughter could be expected in the subsequent providence, the birth of another Only-Begotten Son could not be expected. This is precisely what occurred in the life of the Only-Begotten Son, Jesus. Jesus was born as the Only-Begotten Son, but because the Jewish people of that time failed to fulfill their mission, the Only-Begotten Daughter was ultimately not born, and Jesus had no choice but to walk the path of the cross.”
⇒ The Only-Begotten Daughter, who was to become the wife of the Only-Begotten Son, Jesus, was the sister of John the Baptist and had already been born at that time (‘Blessed Families and the Ideal Heavenly Kingdom’, Vol. 1, p. 34). Heavenly Parent created Adam and Eve together and earnestly desired that the two would live together, become husband and wife, build a true family, and realize Heavenly Parent’s ideal of creation. This principle is repeated in the Last Days. With the birth of the Only-Begotten Son, Jesus, Heavenly Parent also brought the Only-Begotten Daughter—who was to be His spouse—into the world at the same time.
However, because the family of Mary and Zechariah failed to understand this providential plan and fell into unbelief, the Holy Wedding could not be fulfilled. In other words, following the failure of the first Holy Wedding between Adam and Eve, the Holy Wedding between the Second Adam and Eve—the Only-Begotten Son, Jesus and the Only-Begotten Daughter, the sister of John the Baptist — also failed.
[‘Selected Words of True Mother’, Vol. 2]
“Had John the Baptist fulfilled his mission at that time, Judaism—which was in the position of Abel—and the nation of Israel—which was in the position of Cain—could have become one centered on Jesus. Had the Cain-like and Abel-like entities become one in that way, the foundation for the wedding feast of the Lamb would have been established at that time, and Jesus would have become the True Father of humanity, while the Bride would have become the True Mother of humanity. Ultimately, Jesus, together with that Bride, would have been able to establish the Kingdom of Heaven at the levels of the individual, the family, the clan, the nation, and the world.”
Furthermore, on January 3, 1971—the day of Jesus’ birth—True Parents bestowed a “preliminary blessing” upon Jesus and Ms. Jang Jeong-sun in a ceremony known as the “Substantial Holy Spirit Wedding” (‘Unification Church Chronicles’, p. 94). Building upon that foundation, on June 13, 1998, during the First Blessing Ceremony for 360 million couples, the “actual blessing” was bestowed. Through this, Jesus welcomed the Bride as the Substantial Holy Spirit, whom He had been unable to welcome 2,000 years ago (‘The Life Course of True Parents’, Vol. 5, p. 193).

⇒ “In fact, the Only-Begotten Son, Jesus, was born through the chosen people, the nation of Israel. Furthermore, the sister of John the Baptist was born as the Only-Begotten Daughter; however, due to the ignorance of Mary, Zechariah, and John the Baptist, the Only-Begotten Daughter in substance never appeared in the world. Jesus died on the cross, and the existence of the Only-Begotten Daughter was completely pushed out of the public consciousness.”

Since even Blessed Families can fall again if they commit mistakes, they must constantly hold Hoondokhwe meetings and live a life vertically aligned at a 90-degree angle, united with Heaven”—it would better connect with the text following the passage. This is because there were many people within Blessed Families who committed mistakes.

⇒ “Although Jesus established the victorious foundation for the Only-Begotten Son 2,000 years ago, He was unable to establish a substantive foundation of victory due to the failure of the Holy Wedding. Therefore, Jesus must ensure that the Only-Begotten Son of the Second Coming (the Second Only-Begotten Son), who will be born again afterward, acknowledges the fact that Jesus Himself failed to fulfill His mission as the Messiah of the First Coming. Furthermore, He must encourage and actively cooperate so that the Only-Begotten Son of the Second Coming does not repeat the same failure as He did, but rather certainly performs the Holy Wedding Ceremony, brings forth many Blessed Families, and realizes the Ideal of Creation.”
Page 254: “In the providence of salvation, the birth of the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter occurs only once. Just as with Adam and Eve, the first human beings, as long as they do not fall themselves, once the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter are born, it is impossible for another Only-Begotten Son or Only-Begotten Daughter to be born thereafter.”
⇒ “In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were created and born together and were to realize the Ideal of Creation. Similarly, as we approach the Last Days in the history of the Providence of Salvation, the birth of the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter must proceed simultaneously.
In other words, this must proceed in the form of the First Only-Begotten Son and Only-Begotten Daughter, followed by the Second Only-Begotten Son and Only-Begotten Daughter. This is because the Ideal of Creation can be realized only when the True Son and True Daughter meet and establish a Blessed Family. It makes no sense for the First Only-Begotten Son and the Second Only-Begotten Daughter to hold a Holy Wedding, nor for the First Only-Begotten Daughter and the Second Only-Begotten Son to hold a Holy Wedding. This is because it is impossible for human beings, who are bound by physical limitations and cannot transcend time and space.”

IV. Conclusion
1. The effort to analyze and interpret the Principle of Creation, the history of Israel, and the history of the Korean people using the key terms “Only-Begotten Son” and “Only-Begotten Daughter” is a major strength of this book. However, although the central axis of the history of the providence of restoration has been the pairing of a man and a woman (the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter), the author failed to grasp this point correctly and conducted research from an excessively “Only-Begotten Daughter”-centered historical perspective. Consequently, the development of the content has become unnatural, giving rise to unnecessary misunderstandings and conflicts. A sad situation has even arisen in which schisms have emerged. Because the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter were analyzed separately, the interpretation of the history of salvation—which should have been presented in a concise and easy-to-understand manner—has instead become obscure.
Therefore, ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’ should be significantly revised to present the birth and missions of men and women, Adam and Eve, the Only-Begotten Son and Only-Begotten Daughter of the First Coming, and the Only-Begotten Son and Only-Begotten Daughter of the Second Coming simultaneously. Just as there cannot be an Only-Begotten Son without an Only-Begotten Daughter, there cannot be an Only-Begotten Daughter without an Only-Begotten Son. The two are always together and are inseparable beings. Therefore, only by adopting an attitude of welcoming both of them together can the providence of restoration proceed swiftly. We must discuss their lives and philosophies while comparing them simultaneously.
The fundamental reason why the Family Federation is currently in turmoil is that it explains the providential history by separating True Father, the Only-Begotten Son, from True Mother, the Only-Begotten Daughter, and conducts one-sided education. Because this is unnatural, criticism is growing that it appears to be sophistry or an ideology. Children must not separate their parents. We must promptly—and without fail—respectfully welcome both of them together. Furthermore, we should devote our efforts to truly bringing the settlement of Cheon Il Guk.
2. The author’s fundamental historical perspective was one that emphasized only the Only-Begotten Daughter. Consequently, regarding the normal and balanced providential history—in which both the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter were simultaneously sought out and established to advance the providential work of salvation—the author became fixated solely on the Only-Begotten Daughter, losing balance in both his thinking and his writing. As a result, he has arrived at a strange, unscientific, and myth-like distorted interpretation. Rather than being a normal person with two eyes, the author makes abnormal judgments as if seeing things with only one eye; consequently, the text contains many errors and is filled with unreasonable, contrived logic.
This appears to be a manifestation of a dangerous, false intellect and is expected to pose a serious obstacle to the development of the church. This is a cause for great concern. Such content must not be published or taught in lectures.
3. Rather than titling the book ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’, it would be more appropriate to title it ‘Commentary on the Theory of the Only-Begotten Daughter’. Judging by the title, the book appears to interpret the lives and philosophies of True Father, the Only-Begotten Son, and True Mother, the Only-Begotten Daughter, from a new perspective. However, the actual content rather centers on True Mother, the Only-Begotten Daughter. It will be difficult to avoid criticism that this is a “second ‘Great Epic of the Chosen Korean People.’” I ask that you cease this foolish act of skewing religious education to center on the Only-Begotten Daughter.
4. Please do not separate True Father and True Mother, which would bring schisms; instead, let us adopt an attitude of respectfully and wholeheartedly welcoming both of them together. Criticism is being voiced by members and the general public that “although the denomination’s name is the Unification Church, the very essence of unification is nowhere to be seen—or perhaps unification does not even exist.” We must face this reality head-on, listen carefully, reflect on what requires reflection, and correct what needs to be corrected. Let us take this opportunity to renew and be reborn ourselves, thereby demonstrating the majesty of the True Unification Church, the Family Federation, and the Heavenly Parent’s Holy Community.
5. We must uphold and respect the central axis of the history of the providence of restoration that the Unification Church and the Family Federation have emphasized. Namely, although Adam (the First Begotten Son) and Eve (the First Begotten Daughter) were created and born, they fell into Lucifer’s temptation and failed to fulfill the Ideal of Creation. Four thousand years later, the Only-Begotten Son, Jesus (the Second Begotten Son), and the Only-Begotten Daughter—the sister of John the Baptist (the Second Begotten Daughter)—were born. However, due to the ignorance and unbelief of Mary, the high priest Zechariah, and John the Baptist at that time, the crucifixion occurred, and the realization of the Ideal of Creation failed.
Subsequently, after enduring 2,000 years of severe tribulations, the 20th century arrived, and finally, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the Second Only-Begotten Son (the Third Begotten Son) and Mrs. Hak Ja Han, the Second Only-Begotten Daughter (the Third Begotten Daughter) held their Holy Wedding Ceremony. As the Messiah Couple of the Second Coming, they realized the True Family (True Couple, True Parents, True Children).
Since then, the two have brought forth numerous Blessed Families and, furthermore, have endured every kind of hardship to transform all humanity into Blessed Families, advance science to create a comfortable environment, and realize an era in which the Cheon Il Guk is firmly established. Currently, True Mother is leading the way and directing these efforts.
To summarize this, it is as follows: 〈The birth of Adam (the First Begotten Son) and Eve (the First Begotten Daughter) and the failure〉
⇒ 〈The birth of Jesus, the First Only-Begotten Son (Second Begotten Son), and the Sister of John the Baptist, the First Only-Begotten Daughter (Second Begotten Daughter) and the failure〉
⇒ <The birth of the Second Only-Begotten Son (Third Begotten Son), Rev. Sun Myung Moon (True Father), and the Second Only-Begotten Daughter (Third Begotten Daughter), Hak Ja Han (True Mother), and their victory, and the progress of the providential work toward the settlement of the Cheon Il Guk >
6. Truth must be revised, supplemented, and developed in accordance with the changing times. However, the scriptures themselves must be preserved as they are, and research must proceed in the form of papers, books, and lifestyle guides. This is common sense and a standard that applies universally to all religions.
Furthermore, at the end of the Introduction on page 18 of the ‘Divine Principle’, it is written: “We believe and look forward to the continued publication of deeper aspects of the truth as the time comes.” Therefore, while maintaining the fundamentals and cornerstones, it is necessary to pursue diverse research. The author’s approach to studying ‘Commentary on the Theory of True Parents’ from a new perspective is commendable. However, because the historical perspective underlying the work is biased toward the Only-Begotten Daughter, the content has become confusing, obscure, and irrational. I earnestly hope the author will adopt the calm and objective stance befitting an intellectual by studying the lives and philosophies of both the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter together, and by welcoming them.
7. Religious truth acquires meaning as genuine truth, true light, a religion of life, and a rational religion that brings salvation to people when it earns the sympathy of citizens and humanity at large and stands the test of scrutiny through a life of practicing love and compassion. As a result, the number of believers also increases. This is proven by the history of world religions. Therefore, while doctrinal debates are necessary, let us place as much emphasis as possible on the practice of true love.
For example, when you look at a cookbook, it features dishes that look delicious, elaborate, and expensive. Detailed nutritional analyses are also provided. Just looking at them makes readers’ mouths water. However, when mealtime actually arrives, people reach for a slice of bread rather than the dishes in the cookbook. What truly satisfies hunger is not the cookbook, but bread—which, though simple, inexpensive, and unassuming in appearance, is substantial and real.
Similarly, while it is necessary to engage in metaphysical and scholarly studies of religious doctrine, we must prioritize developing a religion of daily life, a national religion, and a world religion that truly meets the needs of citizens and humanity. If topics meant for discussion among specialized scholars are casually introduced to church members or the general public, it could lead to increased confusion. We must distinguish between these two dimensions.
8. Currently, when conducting reporting prayers, the phrase “Blessed Families serving Holy Mother Han” is used. This should be changed to “Blessed Families serving the Holy True Parents” or “Blessed Families serving the sacred True Parents.” Prayers encapsulate the core of all a religious organization’s doctrines. Therefore, the prayer text currently in use must be revised. Shouldn’t True Father be included in the prayer text?
9. From the perspective of the Family Federation, even Mary, the mother of Jesus, failed to fulfill her responsibility. Christians would likely be surprised to hear this. We must learn from these painful events of history. Both in the past and today, it is difficult for anyone to correctly understand the Will (mission) of Heavenly Parent given to them, and it is even more difficult to put it into practice. This means that in the process of walking the path of the Will (the settlement of the Cheon Il Guk), no one must let their guard down even for a moment until the very instant of their passing.
10. Even living a virtuous life is no easy task. All the more so, the journey of Blessed Families—who seek to bring the settlement of the Cheon Il Guk and fulfill Heavenly Parent’s Ideal of Creation—is even more arduous. Why is this so? There are three reasons. First, it is not easy in and of itself to become self-reliant as an individual and manage one’s daily life. Second, the forces of Satan are relentlessly obstructing us. Third, we must pay the historical indemnity in our own time that has accumulated throughout long history.
Therefore, not everyone can become a Blessed Family; one can receive the Blessing only through the virtuous deeds of one’s ancestors and by offering one’s utmost sincerity and devotion. Furthermore, to the extent that a Blessed Family has labored and offered devotion for the establishment of the Cheon Il Guk, after physical death and upon entering the spirit world through the seonghwa ceremony, they will enter the city on the foundation of True Parents’ victory, welcomed by angels and good spirits.
I often love to sing Hymn No. 7, “Song of the Garden.” The lyrics in the latter half of the third verse are deeply meaningful: “Our trouble and our trial here will only make us richer there. When we arrive at home, when we arrive at home.” The pain and hardships of this earthly life will serve as a testimony that our spiritual bodies will ascend to an even higher dimension of the heavenly world in the spirit world.
Beloved members of the Family Federation! I pray that you will all enjoy good health and build happy, blessed families. Let us all unite our hearts and work together to faithfully serve True Parents—who descended as the Only-Begotten Son and the Only-Begotten Daughter without original sin, as the Messiah Couple of the Second Coming; who held the Holy Wedding, the Wedding Feast of the Lamb; who have brought forth many Blessed Families; and who are devoting themselves to the realization of a peaceful, unified world, “One Family under God”—and let us realize happy Blessed Families.
The very fact that we have become Blessed Families means we have received Heaven’s blessings and holy grace as vast as the oceans and great rivers. Until now, we have lived our lives following the path of God’s Will and doing our very best. From now on, without growing weary, without becoming discouraged, and without making mistakes, let us escort True Mother back to the Palace and surely and swiftly accomplish the secure settlement of the Cheon Il Guk. As victors, let us shout “Ok Manse!” Aju!
